Then I've got the beer that you've looked for, brew with me and escape.

Ok, enough silliness. Here's the idea: I've got some Azacca which is described as having a very identifiable pineapple flavor and aroma. I've also got some ADHA 529 which is described as tasting like sweet coconut. So why not brew an IPA with quite a bit of lactose and oats in it for the silky creamy mouthfeel and use these hops to get the tropical flavors?

If the hops don't deliver strong enough flavor i could always add some pineapple juice and flaked coconut after primary fermentation.

Thoughts?

P.S. I would call it Escape IPA. 10 bonus points to anyone who figures out the correlation.

I say go for it.....

and take good notes in case it turns out incredible... so you can repeat it... or change it if need be!

Escape = coronas trademark phrase?

Did this idea ever take shape? I want to make a pineapple coconut IPA thats sort of similar. I was going to leave out the lactose and pineapple juice. I'll used ~3lbs of toasted coconut in the fermentor becuase it works very well in a coconut porter I did. I wanted the pineapple character to come from the hops. I was thinking about maybe kohatu, citra and hallertau blanc. But you're saying azzaca got a good amount of pineapple too?

Escape is the name of the Pina Colada song. Ya know, "If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain." The name of this thread was a feeble attempt at a pun on that. Now to the beer.

I agree. I want the pineapple (and the coconut) to come from the hops. The pineapple juice was only if the flavor wasn't where I wanted. To be honest, If i had the setup I would skip the lactose too, but serve it on nitro! The creaminess mixed with those flavors are the kind of things people write songs about, literally!

Btw, describe your coconut toasting/adding to the beer process if you don't mind. I've heard different ways of doing it.

Also, might have been wrong on the Azacca. In this hop guide, the best i've ever seen, it has a pineapple descriptor http://www.bear-flavored.com/2011/12/bear-flavoreds-ultimate-guide-to-hop.html

However, when the same guy brewed a single hop IPA with it, although it sounds amazing, there was no mention of pineapple http://www.bear-flavored.com/2014/06/azacca-single-hop-ipa-recipe-tasting.html

The only hops I have tasted in a beer that were very distinctively pineapple to me were vic's secret. They are really hard to get though.
