CGVT,, I'm not sure but guessing after 30 years serving the USA in the Cost Guard, you probably retired as a MasterChief. If I'm wrong I apologize

More to the point. Our children bring joy . Your daughter, You Are very proud of her. That's wonderful! Fair winds and following seas, Shipmate.

You are correct, Dan. BMCM. I am a lucky man. I was fortunate enough to command three Coast Guard Search and Rescue Stations and an 87' patrol boat. I have a great wife (I chose wisely the second time around) who, within reason, puts up with my BS and I have three great kids. Although I still do, I have nothing to complain about. ;)

It's tough retiring for me. I doubt ill ever be as productive or respected. I was not an ass. I did my best to take care of people. You know how that is. Four years retired and glad about that. Still miss the camaraderie of a great life working together with wonderful people across this USA of ours. Life is certainly not the same now.

Yep. Our world has gone from sailing ships to raking mom's backyard...

Of course, my kids can recite some of my stories word for word. Ha!

Maybe I should just post. I loved and hated military life. However being part of it for so many years,!being part of a team, giving myself and whatever wisdom I gather
I miss that Truly do. I wasn't the best Chief out there . But I was a good one.

Nobody cares about that. It's okay. Can't rest on laurels. I love working for my country. Just don't know where to serve now.

On vacation in Florida. Kids have been crazy, Disney was a bore for everyone but my wife. However I am now at Clearwater beach sitting on my balcony drinking beers I can't get in my home state. All in all everything is ok. How is everyone else?

Don't beat yourself up, Dan. Even though the units won't remember you, your legacy lives on in all of the Sailors that you came into contact with and influenced.

You served well and honorably. Find something to keep you occupied and happy.

I was pretty lost after I retired. I felt as if I had developed skills and knowledge and they were going to waste. I sat on my ass for a year and then started driving a truck for a food bank part time. It was hard work for an old man like me and I was thankful that I didn't have to do that for the past thirty+years, but I enjoyed it. I moved into managing the warehouse a few weeks ago. It isn't great pay, but it is good enough and it is honest work that will most likely allow me to get my kids through school.

When you get settled go out and volunteer or take a low paying job and meet some people. It will be good for your soul and may lead to some opportunities to put those leadership and management skills that you honed in the Navy to use.

Make sure you get some Cigar City Jai Alai while you can.

It is an amazing IPA. Grapefruit, mango, mandarin orange... Wow!

One of my favorites. I had it in FL last year and now I can get it in AL.

Had a few of those. It is good. Can't get it where I'm from. I also got a nice sunburn. I love ipas and it's one of the better I've had.

Cheers

I totally respect and do resemble that honest assessment! Im aware of that. In a few more days I probably won't be on this site as much. I'm not embarrassed to say though, this place has been a big part of my real world for awhile now. No regrets. And PP you have nothing to apologize for, I think your words are straight up.
:mug:

Heh, I'm guilty of spending too much time here myself. If it seemed like I was pointing fingers, it was at myself first.

Apparently google and I are not in sync tonight, isn't there an HBT book club? A thread like, whats on your bookshelf? Show us your reading list... I'm sure there is. I can't find it. Re-reading "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", but looking for something new.

I seem to recall a thread like that, too, but the only one I could dig up is this thread which doesn't look quite right to me.

If you haven't read Altered Carbon, you might try that. It has some similarities to the eponymous story in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out.

I was looking through my old Youtube videos and found this.

My crew on the 87' patrol boat I commanded taking a fishing boat in tow.

Good, dedicated kids, every one of them.

I met up with passedpawn today. We talked beer and had coffee with the family. This guy is a nut riding 50+ miles a day on his bike. More power to him.

While we are talking about navy/coast guard etc. I took a trip tonight. A pirate cruise. We all had a real good time.

Nice ya meet ya passpawn and it's a beautiful area in which you live.

I think I enjoyed the pirate ship ride as much as anyone. Walking on a rocking boat brought back memories for me. It's been well over 10 yrs since I rode those great navy ships across the Atlantic.

The last time I was on a big boat in the ocean I was scared to death....this time I was a pirate. Aaarrrrgggggoppprooost!!! Maybe the rum helped!!

Thanks for taking the time to meet me passedpawn, I'll send something your way soon. Cheers.

It was truly my pleasure. I was impressed with your experience with lagers. Might have to hit you up for some advice in the near future.

Glad you liked Cap'n Memo's ship. It ran right near me as I crossed the memorial causeway bridge there. I hope Lisa/Joe Jr/Liver had fun as well.

No one will understand liver, but my liver is doing quite well...maybe a bit overworked.

Ran into some pirates that I thought were just part of the show while standing in line for the ship. I asked if I needed to fold liver's stroller and they said "oh we don't work here, we just dress up as pirates for fun".

It was fun! Lots of it. My son won musical chairs, I had a partial bud light, then moved to rum,,,,just enough to my wife mad she had to drive. Here's a pic of my night.

reinstone is referring to Clearwater's Captain Memo's Pirate Cruise. It's a fun attraction of C. Beach.

Honestly, a lot more fun than Disney.... Boats, pirates, women pirates, rum, a nice day and my kids loved it. Money well spent....Now back to the cool Midwest where we will go from cold to oppressive heat over the course of one week.

See ya next spring Florida and passedpawn.

This is for you LG; I doubt anyone else will like it. I do. There is some vocals starting at 1:50.

I did indeed enjoy that. Thank you.

No new paintings this weekend. I did do some minor work on the last one I posted. It's been glazed and had a small amount of neon paint applied. The day glow compounds that make neon colors so bright also fluoresce under a black light.

EDIT: Well, I did do a materials study to find out exactly how some of the new mediums, etc... I got work.

We cover the clock pretty well. One of the mods is in Europe, so he picks up the late night pretty well. I just knocked out a spammer a few minutes ago... they like to strike in the wee hours.

What part of Europe if I can ask?
