I can taste the difference between Bud Light, Miller Lite, and Coors Light. I am not crazy about any of them, and I would have taken what is free. But I don't think you could fool me with them.

i'm in the same boat. i'm pretty sure i could tell the difference. but its all mostly fizzy and yellow. i seem to think i like miller less (but not much less). blind taste test? i don't know. i like to think that i could tell. i could tell between coke and pepsi (i like coke better), but they were a lot closer than i thought in a blind test.

point being, i would have drank the which ever was the freest and been stoked to have free beer. guy is a dick.

This was a good opportunity to engage him in a debate about why he felt BL was so much better! Hit him with some: "Do you think the 60 minute hop addition that Coors uses is too little?" Or: "Is their use of dog semen at flameout inadequate to meet your needs? Perhaps a 15 minute addition of penguin semen would satisfy you, oh lord of the refined palate!"

Then promptly offer to brew him a batch that uses 14 different types of bodily fluids from animals. This strikes me as hilarious on account of my 5:30am tore-down-ness.

For all people who think they can tell the difference between BMC, I must say I doubt it.

My job puts me in restaurant and bar kitchens every day. Several managers told me that when they occasionally run out of one light American lager they will just replace it with another. Nobody ever complains. Since then I started asking others. Most places do this and nobody ever notices a difference.

Depends. I'd certainly say it's usually the case, but I have become pretty sensitive recently to the difference between beers brewed with corn, and those brewed with rice. And I find the corn a bit off-putting, in all honesty.

Generally I will have a soft drink instead when the only thing available is BMC, so it's not something I pride myself on being able to differentiate, and I definitely don't have any particular horse in the race. In fact, I only ended up trying Bud Light a few years ago, whereas my family has always been Coors Light drinkers, so if I had any bias in which one to prefer, it SHOULD be in favor of the corn lager.

Ha-ha!

This past Monday my in-laws came to visit. We went out to dinner at the local Abuelos, where I reconnoitered the tap situation, and ordered a Modelo Especiale draft, as did my brother in-law. When I (finally) got my mug, it was brown - dark brown. And it tasted strangely like Dos Equis Amber. I informed the beer wench and she toddled off to tell the bartender. She returned and said that the bartender knew with no doubt that we were drinking Modelo Especiale. She was kind enough to bring us each another and not charge us for either one, so I left it alone. But it was definitely a facepalm moment.

i'm not saying that if someone switched one on me (especialy if it were my first beer of the day) i would notice, or care. but i do notice, say at a cook out, if all of my friends brought different yellow fizz; when changing from one to another. some (maybe a lot) of that may be attributed to it looking different and me expecting it to be different, different marketing, whatever. but i think in a blind taste test i could pick out a few brands. i would say at least coors light, miller, and pbr. if i wasn't able to distinguish between brands i think i would at least be able to tell if the next beer was a different beer or the same one. more to the point, they all taste pretty freakin close and i wouldn't care anyway.

I find it funny that a bunch of people with "refined" palates can't tell the difference between bud light and coors light, their not really that similar.

while i don't have a "refined" palate by any means. i do think i can tell. its just that it doesn't matter. if i'm drinking ice cold fizz its either to cool off or get drunk (or both).

I'm not saying you couldn't tell the difference if they were both there. But if I gave you Miller Lite and told you it's Bud Light most people wouldn't notice.

i probably wouldn't if i wasn't expecting it. i would be paying more attention to bull****ting than my beer (if its BMC)

First, was it cold as the rockies? That's important.

Second, I'd have pulled him aside and said "listen, these guys all like coors, so don't tell them that it's actually bud light. The store was outta coors. Only we know that we're drinking the good stuff." Wink Wink

Not trying to rock anyones boat, but if i have a party, i eat, drink and dress similar to those that i invite. Otherwise it might come off as rude or cheap. That said, i would def. drink coors, i prefer it over any Budweiser except their golden wheat.

I'm still expecting a sudden disappearance of Macro beer from store shelves. One of these days they are going to forget they are making beer while they are focusing on the marketing.

I agree, but it seems the OP made his HB available to those to wanted it as well. When I have people over, I tell them what's on tap, let them know they're welcome to as much of it as they want and that they're welcome to bring anything else they'd prefer. It won't hurt my feelings it they don't like my beer.

I did make my HB and purchased microbrews available to anyone who wanted some. He did not partake. I asked everyone at work what they (and their spouses) drink beforehand and was told "whatever, anything light". I agree, I should have done a blind taste test......I guarantee that he would have gotten one correct - my homebrew!!!!!!!!!

Who's laughing now.Ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. ha ha to the ha? Ah ha! he haw huh ha huu ha ha wtf?...

I know exactly what you mean! Light American lagers are all so very similar that you really can't tell the difference between any of them. I mean you can tell the difference between the use of corn and rice but it's so slight, if you're not a craft drinker I doubt you have the pallet to do that anyways.

The difference in flavor is about the same as the difference people make between "their," "they're," and "there" in these forums. ;)
