I'm gonna buy that guy a cat or something, so he can have just a LITTLE less time on his hands to project his written vomit on everyone on that **** stain of a site. Holy ****, this must have been one of the days his mom forgot to call him up out of the basement for dinner, because this is the kind of review you get from someone who is so socially inept that they pee a little when the cashier at McDonalds makes direct eye contact. **** this made me mad.
My favorite part is that he wrote that this was "the best run beer festival I've been to" and then proceeded to list no fewer than 14 complaints broken into different categories!

The Veil kegs kicked in under an hour? What, are they taking notes from J Wakefield?

I wasn't paying attention to my watch, but I would guess they lasted over an hour. It took probably 10 minutes to get past the crowd to get to tent D, then my group went to probably 5 or 6 tents prior to that, all with roughly 5 minute lines. Then we got in the Veil line, asked for Extra Kreme (which they didn't have - apparent mixup) but got Crucial Taunt x3 dryhop.

I never went back, but I would guess that was around 12:30 by the time we got to Veil. Could definitely be wrong though. Either way, they must have kicked early and clearly earlier than 4pm. We left at about 3pm and most everything was gone, and so was my patience/taste for beer.

Yup. I got over to them around 11:55 and they didn't have ****. Flipping the table over and putting stickers on the names of the two beers on their list.

My guess is that it's a marketing strategy to increase demand.

Probably so.... I love me some creature comforts but hell they ran out of beer too, and only brought two kegs...

Hated to see all the empty booths but most people didn't care at that point.

I was drinking at 10:20 or so till 1:45 and I was over it, so what do I know!

CBB apparently paid for 2 kegs from each brewery, and it was up to the breweries to bring additional beer or not. Now I don't know if this applies specifically to Veil, but my anecdotal observation is that breweries who just sent beer down, but didn't actually have brewers/owers/etc personally attending and instead exclusively had volunteers pouring, either sent the minimum or close to that. Breweries who were repping in person tended to have more beer.

Would it be better to not have a tent up for that brewery than and just have a guest tent where pours change as kegs finish? Kind of like darklord day?

I wouldn't blame a brewery for only sending min if they are not attending the event. But if I was there representing my brewery I would not want people to be disappointed not getting my product.

you're assuming some of these chuckledicks care about their perception to their customer base

(ahem... jwb)

I think it would be pretty neat if CCB filled any kicked tents with some of their year-rounds or seasonals. Say a tent is fully kicked, then CCB just taps a keg of Jai Alai or Invasion and slaps a sticker over whatever the tent used to be. It would allow them bigger exposure at their own fest and they could "play the hero" by filling in the gaps.

If you don't sell your beer in Florida, you're not really hurting your "customer base" by not sending enough kegs. Sending lots of free beer to an out of distribution state doesn't do much for marketing/PR.

But yeah J Wakefield can **** off.

Sending it to a festival where many attendees are from out of state might though....

Let's be real: I don't think there is any precedent for running out of beer quickly at a fest harming a brewery's reputation or sales... if anything, engineering the worst imaginable customer experience at every opportunity would seem to be a well-proven marketing technique at this point.

Beer people are a strange bunch of consumers.

It's because people like to ***** about how hard it was to obtain their special beer.

Landed in Tampa on Wednesday with fear025 trickytunadicky and dvelcich, and our typical first stop was the Cigar City airport brewery (one of the time that taking Southwest pays off).

Checked out Cigar City itself afterwards, drank Zhukov Penultimate Push as well as some fun guest taps (Funk Factory, Perennial, TRVE, etc...) before moving on to our AirBnb in Ybor.

Ended up having dinner at the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor which we were told was a tourist trap, but the food was pretty solid and the atmosphere reminded of an old school place that hadn't changed much in years.

Finished off Wednesday at Cigar City Cider and Mead with some drinks and late night Gianga.

Thursday started off at a great local bakery about 4 blocks from our place, and then we hit up Coppertail Brewing.

Lots of great beers (barrel aged emphasis with both stouts and fun Belgian styles), and a really impressive tap room that stood out amongst the places we hit up over the extended weekend.

We attended the Garagiste Magnumpalooza on Thursday at Hidden Springs Ale Works where we drank a lot of mead, and unfortunately I didn't get many pictures besides this gem with Forgetfu and JulianB.

Friday was built around the Cycle Barrel Aged Day and it was as fun as the year before (drink the draft beers early, bottle share and play shuffle board after the first hour or so).

After a great few hours we walked up to Cycle Brewing, saw the insane line, and a few of us hung out a bar down the street from Cycle drinking Rapp Gose until we headed out to dinner at the Cajun Café.

Saturday bottle pick up for Hunahpu was a breeze, and we ubered back to our place to drop them off and then grabbed breakfast sandwiches from the aforementioned bakery.

Hunahpu Day itself was a blast, got to try a bunch of great beers (probably 4 different Hunahpu variants which was nice for a guy who wasn't really trying), and generally checked out lesser known spots and just enjoying the day. The Cigar City trailer with the Skittlebrau, Lemon / Raspberry Berlinner and Strawberry Maragarita Gose was the place I spent the majority of the day.

Best picture to sum up the day

Was also great seeing wiltznucs and Mrs. Wiltznucs win Best Beer and Best Brewery for Goober Vitis and Garagiste Meadery.

Sunday we went to Datz for breakfast / brunch and ended up hitting up a couple places in Ybor (Rock Brother and Tampa Bay Brewing Company) before bottle sharing with folks that evening. Travel back to Chicago was a pain in the ass with flight cancellations and delays, but as always an amazing weekend that I've already earmarked for next year.

I ate at datz sat night, not a bad spot. Hard to hate the last buffalo rollin on draft all night but cringed at the prices for pours!!
