I guess there will be some/all/many of us on here who like to drink and drink continually.

I rarely "binge drink" i.e have a full long session on the beer. Most of my drinking is done on a regular but low level. Most days I'll consume beer but usually 2 max sometimes none. Once or twice a week I'll maybe up that to 4. A heavy session for me is 6 to 8 pints and that is only occasionally.
I'm trying to loose a little weight, I'm pushing 40 and have taken on a job that does not allow me the healthy outdoor lifestyle that I used to have.
So all that in mind I think I am going to try and have some days away from beer. I've Just had 5 days without beer. I'm thinking of making it a regular occurence at least twice a month.
I don't have a drink problem but I do love the stuff and am in a fortunate situation where I can have as much of it as I want.

If you have to ask...;)

Try walking during lunch and after dinner. That'll help keep some weight off.

The ONLY REAL secret to weight loss is less intake, more output (eat less/smaller portions and exert more energy (exercise/physical labor)).

Can you at least have one beer a day and maybe cut back on some other things or maybe exercise just a bit more. The experts agree. A beer a day is good for you. :mug:

I drink 1-2 beers every day, but rarely more than that. I don't want to go a day without a beer! I love having a beer after dinner while I check email and catch up on the news.

If you want to go a few days without a beer a couple of times a month, that's great. But if you don't, that's great too! I think binge drinking causes health problems but having one or two a day doesn't. I can see some weight gain with 2 pints a day, though- I'm heavier than a year ago when I started really getting into the beer. I mean, two pints a day is around 600 calories a day or 18,000 a month! You'd have to have alot of activity to burn that off!

Giving your liver a couple days off a month is a good idea. And liquid calories can add up quickly.

I go for days without drinking, but chocolate is a whole different story.

I try to keep myself from beer during the work week (sun night through thurs night), but I don't always adhere to that.

One problem I have is that alcohol will have a seriously negative impact on the benefits of your workout if you have it in your system. I can't have a beer for dessert then in an hour or two go work out, even if you don't feel buzzed its still there effecting you. :(

In response to your original question... 1-2 a night is no problem from a consumption standpoint, in my book.

Heck, the only reason that I'd consider 5-6 in a night a problem is that if I knew someone who was downing a 6er of Coca-cola each night, I'd think they had a problem. Anyone who is drinking 6 of anything in a night probably has a problem of some sort. (I mean this in regards to every night, not a few nights a week/month).

Since I started homebrewing my beer consumption has actually DECREASED I think. Part of that stems from the fact that now when I have a beer I'm really looking more at the flavor. Plus, I bottle in 22oz. bottles (and I'm switching to 32oz. flip-tops) so having "A" beer means a lot more beer than it used to. In general I don't drink during the week, Sunday through Thursday nights, because I find it makes it hard to get up in the morning but then Friday and Saturday I'll have anywhere from 1-3 maybe 4 beers each night. It all depends on what's going on.

I probably have 3-4 beers a week, never more than two at a time. I hate to admit it, but I find myself less and less inclined to get really bombed. If I have more than two, I know that I'll think it's a great idea to have more, and then I feel like crap.

Well I know I love my beer. Summertime is coming and patio & BBQ weather is upon us. As for My intake. Monday, tuesday Wednesday, Thursday I wont have any beer, Friday when Nice out. I will have two beers after a hard days work, then Saturday will be the same. I then Relax on Sunday and Drink about 4 so in total let's say 6- 8 beers a week

Good Lord! Apparently I'm a raving pisstank. I don't even want to say how much I put back in a week, but's its a fair bit more than 6 to 8. Well, on the bright side I don't beat the missus or the kids and everyone claims I'm a gentle drunk. If that counts for anything.

I gotta move to Ireland. Maybe then I'd be normal.

Lets see;
Thursday - out at the pub, had about 12 beers (12oz).
Friday - Quiet one at home. 5 beers, 2 glasses of wine.
Saturday - at home, made roast for tea, inlaws around. (12 beers, 2 glasses of wine)
Sunday - building, 6 light beers and 8 normal.

Total : 32 beers, 6 lites, 4 glasses of wine.
Assuming 1 lite = 0.5 beer and wine = 1 beer

39 beers. or 3.5 US Gallons. Not a bad effort. and I was behaving!

I just make sure I cut down on sugar during the day. No sugar in coffee, no cream donuts, lollies or chocolate and I look forward to my beer at night time. That way not only does the beer not put on weight, but it gives me that sugar fix I love:D

dibby, my friend, I can always count on you to make me feel better.

lol, I got called an Alcoholic at my pre Op a few weeks ago. The nurse freaked out when I said I drank a 12 pack a week, hell I was being modest. She even tried to give me an AA brochure.

when im working i drink around 2-4 a night (usually closer to 2 because i pass out from fatigue before i can get any more down lol) days off tues-thursday i normally start drinking beer between 1pm-3pm and stop when i go to bed which is usually around 11pm. i would say i normally knock back around 6-8+ between that time period :)

let's see. last night my roomate and i had "crappy movie night" and you have to drink to sit through Virtuosity and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

We split:
6 - Pilsner my roommate bought
1 - 22 oz of Gonads & Strife (11.5% Triple)
1 - 22 oz of Franziskaner Clone
6 - 12 oz of Franziskaner Clone

Before hitting the hay, i had one 12 oz of DB Weisse-bier (still not finished)

Earlier in the day I had put down 2 PBR and 1 TJ Hefe

That makes 36 ounces of pilsner, 24 oz of PBR, 71 oz of hefes, and 11 ounces of the Triple.

Some weekends I'll go nuts on the Belgian beer, that's when things really get ugly

Alcohol has been demonized in our society to the point if you mention beer, you're an alcoholic. I just don't mention it to any medical personel or employers. I'm not missing work and it's not affecting my health so it's none of their business. Besides, when you tell a health professional, it may end up in a file somewhere and come back and bite you in the ass later. I bet if you told her 2 glasses of wine a night (14 a week!) she wouldn't have called you an alky. :(

Hey deathbrewer.... Gonads in the lightning, in the lightning, and the rain!!

Orfy, from my perspective, you don't have a drinking issue, but you have a weight issue-two very different things.

I try to avoid sweets, any unnecessary sugar, use Splenda when sweetening is needed, and never, ever try to effect weight loss by avoiding beer.

I drink a lot, every day, often starting in the morning with breakfast, and on weekends, I tend to drink much heavier.

I will avoid beer for a day when it doesn't sound good, generally after drinking heavy all weekend, and I drink ice water to make the leg cramps go away.

From most of the posts stating minimal beer intakes, I think there are a few members who are avoiding replies such as mine. heh...

I try to keep myself to under 10 drinks a week. That usually involves 1 each evening and 2-3 on a weekend. I don't really like feeling drunk so drinking more than 4 a day is very seldom and usually involves 8 or more hours with beer available.
My solution to keeping my weight under control is to bike to work every day. Thats not to say I couldn't stand to lose 20 but my weight hasn't changed since college (over 10 years ago). One thing I have done since starting to make my own beer and the subsequent increase in consumption is to eliminate my soda consumption. I figure a beer is equivalent to a soda in sugar and calories (usually).

Blefferd, you and I are kindred spirits. I don't usually start at 1pm on my weekends, but I tend to go later and consume about as much. :mug:
