Does anyone have a home brew club website? Does anyone know of any brewing/beer templates for either wordpress or joomla? I dont want to buy a template since its just starting out and the money I have will go into hosting fees and website name fees. I know theres a lot of templates for wordpress but I was just curious what experience people have?

I would recommend starting with a Facebook group and/or Google Groups email list. Both are free, most members should easily be able to figure it out. Website can come later.

My homebrew club is Facebook only, and that's fine. I get to see updates/posts/etc right away and I don't forget about going to check a dedicated website everyday.. I would start there. Technology....

thanks for the fast responses but 0 interest in using facebook. thats why I asked about wordpress templates so it can be more of a blog type thing.

Well, if you're trying to get a club off the ground, what you want isn't as important as what your members will actually use. Wordpress is pretty much dead and gone at this point, and odds are all, or at least almost all your members will be active on Facebook. Not trying to tell you what to do, but clubs are a lot like a business, what you personally want isn't as important as what will sell/what your membership wants.

i dont want to get into a debate over wordpress but it is still by far the most popular CMS web software out there and you'd be shocked what big companies use wordpress as their main site. wordpress is not dying. But ya, people that I will be doing this with do not like facebook.

I setup our club on Facebook because it was free and everything was in one spot. Now I am finding that people interested in joining are not on Facebook. I am exploring other free options. If I come across anything I will let you know.

A local group is on FB, and is investigating a non-FB site to have more control and features. It has just been developed (wordpress), and is at
