Hi guys I have been floating around for a while reading different topics and thought I would join in the conversations so I sighned up.I'm from Perth Western Australia (Home of the Americas cup in 1987).I have been brewing kit beers for around 10 years and have been AG brewing for 1 and a half years.I have won a few first place medals in my state comps and hope to become a better brewer like everyone else.

Cheers Andrew

Glad to have ya!! Maybe you can shed some light on this whole Australian "Brew in a Bag Technique".. Welcome!

Hello down-under! (from another Andrew)

Yet another Andrew from the land of sun and bikinis.

Brew in a Bag is not an extract technique. It is an all grain brewing method which allows mashing and boiling in the same vessel through use of a bag to contain the grain.

I don't do it myself but there are some great articles I could link people to if they are interested. I believe there's a few Americans who use the technique (there's at least one who frequents aussiehomebrewer.com) and it's fairly similar to an old UK homebrewing method (or so I hear).

The main advantages are that it's easier and cheaper to set up than some 2 vessel and 3 vessel systems although any method can be as cheap or expensive as you like. It's also quite a good introduction into the world of mash brewing for a beginner.

Probably the wrong thread so sorry churchy but here are the links:

Cheers.
