I'm gonna order a lip-smacking chocolate, coffee stout from Jasper's. :ban: It's an extract kit.

In the kit, I can select between two liquid yeasts. Which one is better for this style of beer?

1) Wyeast 1084 Irish ale yeast
2) Wyeast 1028 London ale yeast

Recipe is here.

Go read about them and choose the one that sounds good to you. You might even want to try Safale S-04. I lean towards 1084.

I really like 1084 in stouts and porters. I am carbing a keg of Irish Red right now that I used it at the higher temp. range and the sample was definitely fruitier than at lower temps, but it also has a nice "depth" of flavor.

Thanks guys... I'm glad to read you both mentioning 1084. Based on only the description, that is the one I was leaning towards. But I'm only reading a description and have no experience with either of these yeasts, so the opinion of those who have used them is valuable.

Placed the order... 1084 it is! :)
