Help making Monster Mill reversible

I'm getting close to building a motorized mill. I wound up going with a monster mill 3 with the 1.5" rollers.

I've seen a few posts where people have pointed out that the MM3 can't be made reversible in for if it ever jams. There's talk of reversing shafts, etc., but I can't say I've really understood this.

Can anyone with knowledge of the this subject provide a detailed explanation? I'm trying to decide if I should wire it to be reversible or not.

I wired up my MM3 for reverse, the extra effort was minimal compared to getting everything else going. I haven't had any jams yet, but i imagine if there is a jam on the 2nd unpowered roller(U2) the reverse function may not be as effective. It's because at the grind location of U2-P a reversing motion will just pile up grain in the U1-U2-P triangle-gap. A jam at U1-P shouldn't pose as much of an issue, but any grain working it's way through U2-P will also start piling up in the main gap so run the reverse just long enough to unjam. Otherwise you could could create another jam.

If your motor has the ability to do reverse i'd wire it up. Best case it will help, worst case you're still jammed.

I see your point. Thanks for the response. I can't find the thread I had read previously. It had something to do with having to adjust the shafts and it just went right over my head.

Just waiting on some parts from mcmaster. Hopefully I can get the mill going in time to brew next weekend.
