So, went to pull a pint and my tap handle was stuck. I pull and pull and... it breaks. yeah so I have beer pouring out and now I have no tap (at least I have my handpump). I wasn't expecting to upgrade, but it looks like I will have to go buy a new tower with dual perlicks. Hopefully it's not too hard to replace on my kegerator. I had no idea the sticking could be such a problem, but if it's enough to break metal, then I guess it's pretty bad. Ungh.

Man that is a bummer. I read from the beginning to get the Perlicks, which is what I did, so hopefully I never have to have that experience. Why do you need to get a new tower? Did you mangle it up while you were pulling on the tap? If not you should be able to mount Perlicks in the old tower.

Yeah I probably could mount a perlick on the old tower (though I tried briefly to get the old tap off and its stuck on there pretty good). But this may be my chance to go from one tap to two, so I may suck it up, spend the money, and just replace the whole thing.

I did the same thing to my tap, I have since switched to the perlicks (added another one so I now have two) and have had nary a problem. I had mine break off while hooked to a 1/2bbl of kiltlifter. it snapped off once open and I had a nice lake by the time I got the crap moved to allow me to open the kegerator up and remove the sanke coupler

I didn't realize I didn't need to take the shank off of the original faucet or anything--looks like a Perlick will just screw on to the existing tower. So I guess I will defer my dream of two taps for the cheaper upgrade right now and just get a faucet.

I really like my Perlicks. I went with the Creamer option. If there's not enough head, just lightly press the tap handle back for a second or two and there ya go. Great for proper presentation.

You may have enough room to drill another hole in that tower to mount a second faucet. I think the diameter of the 1 and 2 faucet towers is often the same. SInce you've got it apart and monkeying with it, you might check to see how hard it would be to mount a second faucet.

I had the same exact problem and replaced my one broken and one unbroken with perlicks. I didn't have a faucet wrench so I protected it (rag would be fine but I used elec tape) and used a normal set of channel locks. Took about 10 min.
