We'll see what happens this year. It will be a cold day in hell before brewers in GA get self distribution, but we may be able to walk into a brewery soon and just order a pint and not have to go through the whole fake tour bit. I would also love to see GA go away from the franchise BS too. Brewers are required to sign a distributor and then they own your brand. It costs thousands of dollars in court fees to get out of a distributor contract in GA. I don't see any mention of that in the story.

Here is a story from WSB News.

Lawmakers look again to help craft beer industry

State lawmakers are taking action after they say the Georgia Department of Revenue is circumventing legislation they passed last year to help the craft beer industry.

The new law allows breweries to sell tours in order to give away their product. But the DOR issued its own bulletin in September saying all tours must be one price no matter the cost of the beer.

After issuing an ultimatum to the department, lawmakers are now taking steps to remedy the situation with new legislation.

“Instead of playing smoke and mirrors, let’s just go ahead and be what it is having the same limited amount of sale directly to the consumer,” says Rep. Ron Stephens (R-Savannah) who plans to introduce his bill this week.

He tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish the measure would also allow breweries to serve food at events and provide a list with information on how consumers can find retailers that sell their beer--both of which are now illegal.

A DOR spokesman says the department will continue to administer the regulations as they are currently in effect and will not comment on any pending legislation.
