I just got an 8gal kettle and used it today for my first full volume boil. I made and APA. I put about 6 gallons into it and put it on the burner. I have a big burner on my stove. I has two concentric rings of flames. I could easily boil 4 gallons in my old kettle, but my new one never reached a hard boil. It did boil though. I've heard before that there needs to be a hard boil to get proper hop utilization. Is that true? Should I be worried?

Relax don't worry.
Don't lament and don't hurry
It may not be hoppy or malty or clear
But when you crack open a bottle it will surely be beer!

(You might also try getting some of that aluminum foil-type insulation. Flame proof. You can wrap it around your kettle to keep more heat in.

I tried setting it over two burners, but they are far enough apart, that about half of each flame is not under the pot. PFA, if you ask me. I guess I'll have to wait to get a propane burner. I just hope this batch isn't crap.
