While taking a sample of beer the temp probe fell out of the chest freezer and I didn't notice  It was set to 33 for a cold crash. I didnt check it again for a few days and it became a frozen slurry. almost a block but not quite. I could still scoop it
(6.5 bucket)

Think it will be any good. Fermentation was done and it was at the end of a cold crash

I've froze a few beers in the freezer in my time and they always taste a little off after they thaw

I have froze a couple. If they are carbonated (I THINK) they taste a little off but still OK. UN-carbonated I couldn't tell. Tasted just fine. WHY the carbonation was different? NO IDEA!!

Cheers

Cool. Hoping for the best. still has an iceberg floating floating 5 days later. I'll wait for that to melt before tasting

If it was me, I'd pull the ice chunk out and just call it an eisbier :D Less volume, but a much stronger beer :D
I was thinking that but its a pale ale and was looking for something not strong. I wonder if it would give it a hot alcohol taste if I removed the ice. I'm assuming the ice is all/mostly water. It wasn't hot flavored before it froze. Wonder if it would just make it stronger with the same taste? It would be an interesting experiment but I'd rather have more beer

I’ve had frozen beer (in the fermenter) come out pretty gross. Very thin and with some pronounced off flavors. Hope yours is ok.

Explains a bit as to what happens when you freeze a beer. Basically, any flavor already in the beer will be much more pronounced and the balance will change. Most noticeably, the hop content concentrates so it might become hoppier or more bitter.

Can you get around the ice block and pull a sample? I'd try it before too much more melts.
Maybe you "invented" the next big thing!

Now you've peaked my interest. I took a sample. It is by far the clearest IPA/APA I've ever made. Possibly any beer including lagers. I can read the paper through 3 inches of beer.
Flavor wise it doesn't taste great but not horrible either. Its borderline flavorless with some bitter. I might hit it with a second dry hop to bring some flavor back and see what happens.

In fairness to the plain taste I brewed it as a super plain beer with minimal hops. I might just try freezing a more complex beer to see how it tastes. Its so clear it might be a fun exbeeriment....after some research on freezing beer

Very plain ultra clear watery beer. (still in fermenter)
Think if I load it up with hops it will bring back some flavor or will I have a great smelling plain tasting beer? Don't want to waste 5 ox of hops. As of now its like a lager with no flavor....I could actually dryhop it with saaz or Tettnang and treat it like a lager????
