Freshness window for a porter?

Just bought an anchor porter six pack but couldnt read the freshness date on it, got home and checked the website and now i know its bottled on the 18th of april. Should i return my six pack or is there not much of a difference of the flavor? cheers

Yes, you should return it and ask for a properly aged 6 pack.

I would think it would be fine. It is not a beer that needs a lotof hop aroma like an IPA so it should age well.

Yes, better. A porter is a darker heavier beer and those typically age well. It's the high hop IPAs and Hefeweizens that are best younger/fresher.

FWIW, I really enjoyed the Anchor Porter but I prefer Deschutes Black Butte Porter. If you can find it, give it a try.

April? Do you how far out they date their beers? I would have to image at least 90 days. So, you are well in that. It takes Anchor 2+ months to even make it over here (kidding, sort of).

They do, and you might be able to find it at most grocery stores too.

Yes, they should have it. Heck, you can get it at Safeway usually.

I just saw the Deschustes at Safeway in Sacramento this afternoon. I personally like the Anchor Porter better myself.
