Will be in France and Belgium next June. Can anyone recommend some French breweries in northern France?

The only decent beer in France is FISCHER (which is actually German...but the border has moved a million times over the centuries). Look for it in a Grolsch-type bottle, but larger.

Breweries are all over the place in Belgium. It all depends on where you are visiting.

That's funny, because Fischer Hoopla still ranks pretty high on my worst beers ever tried list... I was going to recommend staying away from them.

I have always heard good things about Brasserie Thiriez, which is just south of Dunkirk (Dunkerque).

Plenty of biere de garde breweries in that area worth checking out if that is your thing.

There are many other breweries around northern France and as somebody above pointed out, France has a wave of craft beer growth. Giving an indication of where you might be in northern France would make it easier to give more pointed recommendations.

Fischer...wow.

Despite wine's apparent monopoly, there are some awesome Craft beers in France (and some pretty awful ones as well, as with everywhere!). I definitely wouldn't recommend trying Fischer unless you're dying of thrist in somewhere in Alsace.

Off the top of my head;

Sainte Cru; http://sainte-cru.com/

Bon Poison; http://www.bonpoison.com/language/en/

Ninkasi; https://www.ninkasi.fr

Meteor; http://www.brasserie-meteor.fr/en/

3 Monts ; https://www.ratebeer.com/brewers/st-sylvestre/1231/

Depending on what region you go to and where you try and find your beers you'll be more or less successfull. whatever you do, please don't drink any of the following (or if you do, don't say we didn't warn you) ; Kronenbourg, 1664, 33 Export, Atlas, Faax or Amsterdam
