I am a noob, i have brewed an extract batch of homebrewery.com's american lager, a batch of coopers no-boil american light(which sucked), a batch of austin homebrews hoegarden clone, and two batches of apfelwein. I just found a lhbs , kind of, it is Princeton homebrew in Trenton nj. I live in south jersey it is about 40 min away, but let me tell you it was worth it. I was like a kid in a candy store. I bought 5 lbs of corn sugar, a corney keg, a corker, yeast and some corks. The owner was very helpful and willing to BS with me for a while. Anyone who is in the area I recommend it, cant wait to go back! I know i dont post much but i read this forum everyday and the info you guys give is priceless.
