For Those of You Unable to Get Stone Products - I have the Answer!

So I decide to go to the Stone website and shoot them off an e-mail asking why they do not distribute in Florida. They quickly replied that it'll be a while before they can get it here. However they gave me the website to a store out in California that does ship it to Florida. So my order has been placed and now I await the "package". Free ground shipping too - takes 5-8 days though.

Prices are in-line with shelf price out here and with free shipping; nice find for those deprived locally!

OK - so if you want to try Stone IPA and you don't want to buy a plane ticket to a state that sells it, the price tag for a case with shipping to St. Pete Florida is $65.92. No tax though, so that is a plus. Breakdown is $30.92 for the beer and $35.00 for shipping. Pricey but St. Pete is a looooong way from Costa Mesa, Ca. Some of you may do a little better on the shipping.

It works out to about $2.70 a beer. Again when compared to what you spend on an all-nighter out drinking with the boys.....Not too bad.

I realize everyone has an opinion and mine is most likely based on my own experiences, but as far as single IPA's go that are produced here in San Diego, I think Stone has a tough time breaking into the top 10.

I'm sure it's also because Stone beers are readily available to us out here, but $65 for a case of Stone IPA is just insane.

I would imagine that better isn't really the point and it's more about trying a beer that you haven't yet sampled because you can not get it in your area. Though, AB is tasty.......

I agree. Give me some Alpine Pure Hoppiness, Green Flash West Coast IPA, Reaper Deathly Pale (hopefully they'll be back after terminating their agreement with Green Flash), Ballast Point, Alesmith or Pizza Port's Hop15. Why didn't all these great beers exist when I was living in San Diego?

Oh it is so the forbidden fruit type of phenomenon - definitely. We have everything you could ever ask for around us in Florida. But I have not tried Stone - so bottom line is I don't really care about the $65. I just back from happy hour at a bar that is the epitome of high-end authentic beer hall. They had Scaldis Noel on tap (13%) - so excuse any grammatical errors! What a smooth beer!

Just get a clone kit from Austin HB and make it yourself. Might not be exactly the same, but you'll save a lot of dough.

I think they are the Corny style keg but they have a Sanke fitting.

My local pub (O'Briens in San Diego for those of you that care) has some 5 gallon kegs they serve from and they are the traditional corny keg shape, but use Sanke connectors.

I do understand the forbidden fruit thing. I'd probably consider paying $65 shipped for a sace of Bell's Two Hearted Ale

What a great local! I had the pleasure of spending a very long evening at O'brien's last December the weekend after the Strong Ale Fest. I don't think Tom was pouring a beer under 10% abv that night. I ended up at Albertos eating Carne Asada burritos at 4:00am. I also really liked the Live Wire on El Cajon Blvd.

That $65 would have been blown on something else anyway. Now my friend is trying to convince me that I did have Stone IPA when we took our wives to San Fran a few years ago. He swears we had it on tap at one of the bars we went to. Who knows?! Also since we're talking about local haunts - if any of you find yourself in St. Pete, this is the mecca of beer drinking - www.independentbeer.com a bar called the Independent. Absolutely NO BMC products - no Mexican lagers - nothing approaching mainstream grocery store beer. The list that they have on their website does not begin to scratch the surface. I asked the owner why not lay it all out on the website and he claims he does not want copycat bars to get a hold of it. Good place if you are in town.
