Ok. I apologize if this is posted somewhere else. I have searched Google and everything I have read has given mixed responses. And since I have yet to really contribute or participate on the forums, I thought this would be a good time to start.
I brewed an Oatmeal Stout this weekend from a kit I got from MW.
I did everything the same as I normally do, aside from two aspects.
One- I added some additional grains to the partial from a few bags of grain from my graf brew. (so tasty.) Just some chocolate wheat and additional oats.
Second- I rehydrated the yeast packet prior to pitching. Normally, I just pitch the dry right in.
The bubbler never really took off. (I know, I know... Bubbling is not a trustworthy sign of fermentation.)
However, there had been a Krausen (maybe two to two and a half inches thick) that has already fallen. So I see there was signs of activity. But no more.
No bubbling, no Krausen, nothing.
I have never had this issue before, and my only thought is that I screwed up by rehydrating. I did find an article that said I may need to swirl the wort to get the yeast back into suspension. I tried that, but that was only a while ago.
If I do not see activity, would you suggest something is wrong? Should I just cut to the chase and try adding another packet? (The LHBS is over an hour and a half away, so it's quite the trip to get 'er done.)
Thanks for any help!
