First Brewing Casualty

So it took until my 5th batch until I lost a piece of equipment. As many brewers before me, I have broken my racking cane at the bend while trying to remove the siphon tube.

Anyway, this cane was part of an auto-siphon system that I purchased as a set. Am I going to have to throw out the whole auto-siphon, or can I get a replacement cane from somewhere that will work with the auto-siphon base? The cane itself had a special rubber ring at the bottom to help with the auto-siphon.

Any suggestions, or do I just need to buy a whole new auto-siphon set?

I don't believe that you can purchase a cane separately... You will probably have to purchase a whole new auto siphon... just for future reference... a better option is to purchase a Carboy cap and new racking cane... IMO much better than the Auto Siphon ever was...

My LHBS just happened to have a replacement cane for the auto-siphon. I don't know where they got it but they must be out there.

Is this the plastic 1/2" model? If so, the same thing happened to mine - I just cut the cane off right before the bend/brake and hook my tubing up to that - it works fine.

My first two batches I broke two hydrometers. On my third batch I broke my auto siphon. Since then, I have brewed without a casualty!

I just bought a new auto siphon, but saved the broken one for future Rube Golberg projects.
