Light Ale (morebeer.com beginner ale that came with the brewing kit)

Started Monday 14th
Yeast introduced at 7pm approximately
Beginning gravity : forgot to take it
Average temp in Igloo : 65 degrees
Airlock - Russian Standard Vodka

Anyway.. these are the pics every day of the progression with noticable bubbles in the airlock all the way up till today when they slowed down. The temperature in the fermenter Igloo cooler is 55degrees so we took the igloo lid off to help raise the temps, then replace the 2ltr bottle with frozen water to continue.

Pictures take roughly every 12 hours from yeast introduction.

I'm assumeing that the yeast have done their big thing and now need to clean up after themselves like I've read in other threads. The beer is still cloudy but the color looks good. I still see an occasional bubble in the airlock.

What do you guys think?

pretty cool, be careful with that cooler though. Just remember that if the water is 55 there is still a very very good chance that your beer is fermenting at 65. I think its Bobby_M that did the experiment with temperature variations with fermenting wort in a fridge. So look through his threads. I put one of my carboys into a cardboard box and filled it with styrofoam balls over the winter when my basement was at 56degF and when I took a temp of the beer(after proper sterilization) the probe was reading 79deg.

Looks like you got a nice, healthy fermentation. Let the temp rise a bit and let it sit until some time next week if you're using a secondary, or leave it for 2-3 more weeks before bottling.

Oh, and brew another batch!

Ok.. good thought.

I assume the yeast will still do their work so I dropped anohter bottle in the igloo. It's not completely frozen so it shouldn't drop the temps much more.

Kinda surprised at the water temp considering my apartment is 92degrees.

It doesnt take much and coolers are super efficient now. The water does help regulate the temp but water is also a wondfull insulator

Still waiting on a second carboy that's in the mail.

It seems that "fragile" and "glass" to UPS means throw harder. I've had two show up broken.

We plan on starting the second one as soon as we get the other carboy.

I might have to just go buy one locally. Maybe a plastic one because it's lighter.

You wouldn't believe some of the stuff that gets returned to us from UPS. They really know how to abuse a package. You should see it after the trip back to the shipper.
