I have my first all grain batch in the fermenter(s). i brewed it april 13th. it took me 6 hours. I was going for a DFH Indian Brown Ale with saaz hops here is the recipe
Equipment:
10 gallon Boil kettle
12 gallon igloo cube cooler with pipe manifold for mash tun
Specs:
Batch Size: 5.500 gal
Boil Size: 6.394 gal
Boil Time: 1.000 hr
Efficiency: 75%
OG: 1.068
FG: 1.013
ABV: 7.0%
Bitterness: 35.5 IBUs (Tinseth)
Color: 23 SRM (Morey)
Ingredients:
10 lbs 2 row
1 lb Amber Malt
1/2 lb Crystal 60
1/2 lb Chocolate Malt
1 lb Caramelized Dark brown Sugar added 15 minutes remaining
Hops
All Saaz (Czech) 3.3%
2 oz First wort
1/2 oz @ 45 minutes
1 oz @ 30 minutes
3/4 oz @ 15 minutes
WL001 California Ale Yeast

1 tablet whirlfloc at 10 minutes

60 minute boil
Mashed in at 154 F for 60 minutes with 3.5 gallons @168 F
Fly Sparged 170 F 4 gallons

Collected 6.5 gallons with a preboil gravity of 1.058
I sparged again with 2.5 gallons and collected enough wort for a mini 2 gallon batch. the mini batch after boil only had an OG of 1.030. i added a pound of honey to the mini batch to up it a bit. the mini has already fermented down to 1.006 i used a full pack of nottingham dry yeast for the mini batch. i tasted the sample of the mini batch, kind of weak in body. the main batch is gonna be great.

two weeks now, gonna bottle week after next. can't wait to taste. gonna be good. i hope i have positive results on my next all grain. i hit my numbers dead on. my home made mash tun worked great. it's a 12 gallon igloo cube cooler with a pvc pipe manifold in the bottom. i don't know what i should do for my next batch though. i am still debating.
