The new/first canning from Saint Errant (Wander On) is fantastic. I have been wanting to try their stuff for awhile but stayed strong on the no IPA bomber rule. Really impressive though.

Not sure I've tried any of their hoppy offerings yet, but somebody gave me a good pour of the Mata Hari Berliner Weiss which was fantastic. Amazing aroma and flavor, really striking color, and not overly acidic / fruit juice.

Also watched folks purchase over 2 cases of Strange Loops (?) at Beer Cellar when I was picking up some Afterthought a few weeks back after Dave posted a picture of the days deliveries on Facebook.

They must be doing something right.

As long as you admit they are "top-tier"!

FWIW, I don't think there is anyone making better farmhouse beers than Oxbow - no exceptions.
Hill Farmstead? Afterthought?

I know Oxbow is just sitting on the shelves and you want to move them, but that's a hell of a stretch.

I think the bigger stretch is you thinking I would come on to TalkBeer and shill a product I don't believe in because it isn't sold out. I hope you are joking.

For the record let's remember I didn't say nobody else was making saisons at the same level as Oxbow.

To be fair, there is a bit of a conflict of interest here. You're hyping up an event to get people into the store and making a very broad claim that is quoted above. To say that NO ONE ANYWHERE is making farmhouse beers as good as Oxbow and in the previous breath talk about a draft event that's going on with them in your store is the very definition of starting a hype train.

Agreed to just go the vav route and put on super expensive rar beer to complain about later after it doesn't sell very well because it was too expensive to start. LYMI.

I'm not sure that's the term you want to use, because there's zero conflict of interest when a business owner is hyping their own event/wares. That's called "advertising."

I've been surprised by the love they've gotten from reputable places. I'm assuming either they've REALLY improved or I'm very out of touch with what people consider good beer these days.

ya quinnsi WTF...how dare you drop in here, mention what sounds like a lovely little event to try beers on tap of bottles I sorta deem a bit to expensive and don't usually buy and happen to pass along an opinion that oxbow with possibly the best water profile this side of the atlantic makes some of the best farmhouses. maybe you should go back to shilling a beer company that comprises of .1% of your shelf space. then again, i'm just saying this because i comprise of .04% of yr shelf space.

First I didn't say nobody was making farmhouse beers as good as Oxbow - I said the reverse - Oxbow is making Farmhouse beers as good as anyone else. There's a difference.

I believe I've said on my podcast before that I think Oxbow is making the best stuff out there in my mind. Without any event coming up - maybe even before they were in Chicago.

So yes, I want the event to succeed. But the reason I had the event was because I think they are awesome and I want people to try it. There's a good chance the most expensive keg on this Friday isn't even from Oxbow. I mean, we have single foeder Boon on as well. I'd tell what I think about Frank Boon in today's lambic scene but I don't want to be seen as a shill ;)

For the record, I came to this conclusion about Oxbow during CBC in Washington DC. There was an Event at Sovereign with Casey, Monkish, Side Project, Oxbow, and others - maybe DeGarde and/or Hillfarm. Oxbow's was the best in my mind. beeraficionado was there too!

You have more space than they do :)

I appreciate your attempts to improve “Illinois doesn’t know how to put on a craft beer week.”

I think the point that people are trying to make is that you're putting Oxbow on the pedestal when they're not a top tier producer. They make good beer, yes. But they are by no means making world class farmhouse beers and this is especially true when you factor in their price point. But we all have our opinions...

I take exception to you implying that I don't actually believe what I wrote about Oxbow.

I believe you don't think Oxbow is a top-tier producer of farmhouse ales. I just don't agree with you.

I've had Holy Mountain, Hill Farm, De Garde, SARA, Casey, Side Project, Ale Apothecary, Afterthought, Bokkereyder, Jester King, Fonta Flora, Jolly Pumpkin, Lost Abbey, Fantome, etc. etc. etc. I think they make great beers too.

This is still missing the point:

Even if you don't agree with how much quinnsi likes Oxbow (which is, by itself, a silly thing to argue about), he is trying to promote his business, not change your ******* mind. If you don't like their beer or cost of their beer or whatever? Cool. But that doesn't mean there's anything insidious about someone who does also trying to sell it. Because god ******* forbid a business owner promote product that they ACTUALLY LIKE.

TB on fire this morning like a DLD thread on BA in 2012

Riiiiiight?
I mean, they were the Illinois Craft Beer Awards Brewery of Year and all.....

It might just be because I'm such a MT fanboi but I legitimately thought he was talking about that takeover at BeerGeeks or wherever it is.

When I saw a 375 or 500ml bottle? priced at 25 dollars, I passed without hesitation.
I dont think the french or belgian saison makers started brewing this style of beer with intentions of making it unaprochable for the working man, but here we are paying dollars per ounce.

... then again some places locally have charged 125-150$ for 5%abv lambics. lol, might as well save for a plane ticket to Belgium at that rate
