Just going by what details we have here, but seems to me that these ******** needed to be told that they were being ******** and why. No sure walking away and leaving them for the next person deal with is the right move. Kick them out altogether next time.

And to put things in perspective, if you're snapping/waving your hand or money at the bartender because it's busy, you're basically saying "You don't know how to do your job when it's busy, so i'm making sure you know i'm here." and i cannot for the life of me think of any other business where this practice by customers is acceptable or rewarded.

I agree with almost all of this. And I wouldn't have said a word if the story was, "he kept cleaning glasses and wouldn't even look at them", or "he helped 5 other people who had shown up to the bar after them." I'm personally closer to what Hopping Tiger suggested, which would be more or less telling them to knock it off. If you're going to stick it to someone a bit, you might as well make sure it registers.

We're kicking a dead horse here, but I find Laffler's actions far more entertaining and justified than if he hulked out on them.

Part of my response to this is that I've seen several similar Laffler stories over the years. The one that immediately comes to mind was a story from BUG where someone asked him whether he had changed something in BCBCS because the coffee seemed different, and in response, he chugged a glass and said something very close to "If you don't like it, don't ******* drink it." Then shared here and met with a bunch of likes and but that's just Laffler explanations when I asked why people found it funny/appropriate.

That was my story you are recounting here. Having been on more than one occasion in a previous beer life the ******* saying stupid arrogant entitled beer geeky **** to a guy who has devoted his life to just trying to make a great thing, the part I found most amusing wasn't necessarily the 'Laffler being Laffler' part but the wisdom being imparted by holding up a mirror to the whole charade that is this alcoholism hobby of ours in real time.

I was hoping to stop by The Beer Cellar and grab some Afterthought, but when checking their website I noticed their membership. If I recall correctly The Open Bottle in Tinley does a similar thing.

No real statement beyond a membership at a bar (even a slashie) seams weird to me.

I would assume a slashie is a beer store that has both to-go and on-premise. Ala Beer Temple, Beer Cellar, Open Bottle, Beer on the Wall.

I always considered the old Fischman's to be a slashie since they had a full bar and full liquor store. While Open Bottle is more of a craft beer shop/taproom since they only serve beer on tap and not full bar.

Ah, yeah I forgot about that one. I haven't been to the new Beer Temple, but the rest of those places are just one big room full of packaged beer plus a bar. Fischman's probably skipped my mind since the bar was in a separate room.

Yeah Beer Temple's is separate and the bar actually feels like a bar. Might not be full bar, or at least has wine and whiskey available.
