Question for you guys:
Are there bottle shops in Chicago that sell by the can instead of 4-packs, preferably close to the Loop? I'm new to the area and trying to get variety outside of going directly to breweries/taprooms.
Binnys Grand (north) or South Loop, maybe even Mariano’s or Whole Foods have mix-a-six. Can’t speak to the variety or freshness from a firsthand experience.
If you want to jump on the brown line for a visit to Half Acre/Dovetail/Begyle/Spiteful, you could hit Bottles and Cans where they allow almost any 4 or 6 pack from the shelf to be broken up into their mix selection.
Rev has been doing those one-offs on Thursday for a couple years now. Most are slightly special, others are very special.Rev trying to compete with Goose's tapping of Maple BCS?
breakroom -> finch -> ravinia -> twisted hippo
they made some unique **** I've dug over the years.
I don't know much about Ravinia, if they ever even opened, but I have a feeling TH will bring more enthusiasm to this building. Sucks to the last place in the blind stout tasting.

I went last night and would lean this one to the later...Rev has been doing those one-offs on Thursday for a couple years now. Most are slightly special, others are very special.
I freaking love Karl and Marilee, they have busted their asses over the years to finally get a space. I am so happy for them, I know they will succeed unlike the previous occupants of that space. I remember the first time I went to their condo and was just amazed that they had 16+ beers on tap in their ******* condo! Looking forward to seeing what is in store from them in the future...
what time does it start? Not sure what you kidz got planned for the night but at Beermiscuous tonight is the ABV 4th year celebratory extravaganza. Bunch of good lookin haze bro stuff on tap as well as cafe deth, coconut hazelnut temperance variant and a plum version of our stout

Apparently that's practically across the street from where my kid was born. Only two years too late!![]()

Went to Flapjack Brewery in Berwyn this afternoon, and came away very impressed with the place. They are using a 3bbl pscyhobrew system (ala 350 Brewing in Tinley Park), but had some very good beer on draft including a great pale ale, good imperial stout, and a tasty "juicy" IPA done in the NE style.
Food menu is pretty small, but focuses on wood fired pizza that is better than what is being served at Haymarket Taproom as a reference point. Tried three of them tonight (check out the why do old people hate crazzy pizza thread for pictures and descriptions) as well as a charcuterie board plus 7 or so beers for under $100 with a tip which seemed pretty fair.
Small spot with a great family running the place (owner / chef), and beer was much better than I expected. Will definitely be back in the future.
I have been slowly watching this place open from the train every day. Glad to hear it's a solid stop!![]()

But good to know that there is another space in the area that is worthwhile.

I'll have to give it another shot once it warms up. I biked there over the summer and everything I tried was mediocre to not good. Boltneck was the only thing in this list that I tried and was the best one.
Our tastes are pretty similar so I definitely endorse giving them another shot. **** I had 4 crowlers from Blue Nose on Wednesday evening when they came by Imperial Oak for a "live" podcast, and 3 of them were really good with the 4th being meh. New brewer (Justin who used to work at Mainstreet back in the day) who has made some really positive changes to the brewing side of the place.
I made the trip over, thinking this implied middlebrow would actually be there, but like Hulk Hogan in the 90s, I guess he only appears for the PayPerViews. As a long time Milk Eyed Mender fan, the Plum was a very welcome experiment/innovation. The base beer is left well-intact with the fruit lingering through out, and finishing a bit drier as Rizdac pointed out. Speaking of him, congrats on ABVs 4th Anniversary and thanks for raising money for such a great cause last night. Not sure what you kidz got planned for the night but at Beermiscuous tonight is the ABV 4th year celebratory extravaganza. I am glad they are making positive changes. I believe that I went almost a year and a half ago and all of the beers were bad. Not mediocre. Just plain bad.I thought everything I tried at Blue Nose was solid the one time I visited in the fall. Have been meaning to get back there.

Well like no wrestler ever, after my kids finally got to sleep, as I walked outside in my mark ass ABV t-shirt I noticed it snowing. I opted to play it safe instead of doin booger sugar with hacksaw & the sheik and drivin straight to beermisc. while breakin kayfabe.I made the trip over, thinking this implied middlebrow would actually be there, but like Hulk Hogan in the 90s, I guess he only appears for the PayPerViews. It emphasized the importance of having nothing better to do, and high speed internet.Maximum jimmies rustled when tickets for More’s newest pastry stout went live yesterday. Good grief.
