I've heard that the fried bologna sandwich is also really good.

Need to get down there early on a weekend, put my name in, and start drinking at Haymarket.

Looks like we posted the same thing at the same time. I get the burger there 1/10 times. Other 9 gets the bologna. Now I need au cheval for dinner

someone has tricked consumers in to paying $9 for a fried bologna sandwich... and people complain about beer prices

******* hell
I assume your joking. Look at this thing, I barely eat meat and I had to eat this.

Put our name in at 5:00 with a 2.5-3 hour wait. Five hour wait when we went back at 7:30. That app they use now that shows how many parties are ahead of you is pretty handy.

not at all. it's fried bologna and a pickle.

fried bologna is what you eat when the tap water gets turned off and you don't want dry cereal or an empty stomach for dinner.

Think of it as a pork shoulder sandwich, because that's what it actually is. They make their own bologna in house.

comparing that to what you make at home is like comparing hot dougs or someone that makes their own sausages to your oscar meyer weiners. #yrtrollinright?

No reason to drink beer at Au Cheval at all. Always overpriced and the cocktails are very solid.

Also, Small Cheval is a pretty fantastic option if you are just looking for the burg. Well, not as great now that the weather is changing and the patio is not as usable.

well, then it's not bologna. why do they market it as such??

sausage <> hot dogs
pork shoulder <> bologna

After doing some quick internet research, I've discovered that it's not actually Bologna, it's house made Mortadella. I think they call it Bologna because Mortadella originated in Bologna, Italy.

Shameless self-promotion time:

This Saturday, Imperial Oak Brewing is having a great event with our friends at Pollyanna Brewing Company to have fun, drink great beer and support Movember Foundation USA. Each of us brewed an Imperial Oatmeal Stout and added different spices. Our version has vanilla beans and cinnamon added, theirs has cocoa nibs and coffee added. Each brewery will be having TWO bottle releases, one at 12 pm and the second at 3 pm. The Barrel Run will provide shuttle service between the breweries throughout the day so that you can hang out, drink beer and get bottles from both breweries. Bottles will be $12, with $1 from each donated to Movember.

We will also have a raffle at 5pm (proceeds donated to Movember). dvelcich has graciously provided us with the craziest raffle prize I've ever seen.

Hey, thanks for the heads up on this. I was actually heading somewhat near there for a family thing yesterday afternoon and stopped in. Grabbed a glass of the release and a couple bottles.

Movember (IO version) is really solid, especially after it warms. Cinnamon spiciness in the nose and the initial taste fades to a good lingering vanilla taste. Another impressive beer from you guys (I assume you work there given the self-promotion comment).

lol stay up in Wi, fried bologna is the ****...

can't tell you how many time i've eaten it. but then it was either because we didn't have other food in the house or i was a dead broke college student.

actual fried bologna is not good times.

my comment was directed at all the "zomg it's in a box so now they charge more!??!" and "it's a Pale Ale, only #newmoney is paying those prices", etc. comments around here.

it's interesting to me how opinions are shaped. the place has a FIVE HOUR WAIT for people eating things like fried bologna.. that's totally fine and acceptable.

but if people wait in line for beer for 2-3 hours it's a #newmoney outrage!!1one1!1

interesting to me hear what tips people over the edge when something similar or worse doesn't at all

Last fried bologna I had was from a Bojangles last year in SC. #proper

Also, doesn't Au Coeval just use seasoned Cisco ground beef? You're not getting a custom local grind or anything for that wait.

Wait. BOJANGLES SERVES FRIED BOLOGNA?

The worst part about my sister moving away from the Carolinas was the end of my Bojangles connection. The porkchop "breakfast" sandwich might be the best fast food item ever.

You can put your name in and then go do whatever you want. Keep on eye on the app that tells you how many parties are ahead of you and when it gets close, you head back. If you account for the wait and go do something else, you're still eating dinner at a regular hour. There's tons of **** to do in Chicago, so if you plan ahead, the wait isn't really actually a wait. Beer releases, not so much.

I think it was a seasonal thing. They only had it the first time I ever went there. Have not had it on subsequent visits. JulianB can you confirm? Can you bring me Bojangles Friday?

I heard they use Kraft singles too so it wouldn't surprise me. But ****, they are delicious so fine by me. The bacon is basically a slab of pork belly so there's that. Hell, next time I'd skip the burger and get the fried chicken and bone marrow.

Art's Drive In across the street from Stanley's on North Ave does a great porkchop breakfast. It's not on the menu but ask for the Snoop, which is 2 pork chops, 2 eggs scrambled, hash browns, and toast for i think $6.

Snoop is the longtime receiver at Sams/Binny's and this is pretty much his staple, hence the name.
