MarkIntihar and I hit a dozen stores last year and ended up with less than an LP Binny's allotment.

Fair enough. Glad I live in Iowa, I guess. You couldn't pay me to go to the biggest shitshow on Dia de los Shitshow. I look forward to the Twitter/Facebook updates about how the mob crushed through the front door.

Step 1. Promise alllll the BCBS.
Step 2. See line.
Step 3. Decide that maybe that wasn't the best idea and change allocation.
Step 4. BEER NERD RIOT.

I've made the joke the last few years that someone is going to be stabbed/shot/violently attacked over this. And while it hasn't happened yet, it seems like every year the odds go up.

That said, if they stick with a ticket system, I would hope the expectations would be more reasonable. You didn't get a ticket? Time to try another spot.

I wonder what the tickets will sell for before the doors open? I'm assuming $100-$150 easy.

In the time it takes you to cycle through a 1000-person line, you can hit at least 2 or 3 Walgreens, right?
Just make sure you're wearing a neck brace - wouldn't want to injure yourself speeding like that!

If I recall from last year, most tiny stores didn't get anything. Maybe some regular. Independent shops like Beer Temple, West Lakeview, etc. got a token amount of the full line-up. Jewel (and Costco) probably got an inordinate amount of regular while Binnys and Walgreens mopped it up with the full-lineup. As far as which Walgreens and when it goes on sale? Something of a mystery. In the city - and I didn't really look beyond Wicker Park and Logan - it was generally scarce.

Really looking forward to hearing about Dark Lord Day-style scalpers capitalists entrepreneurs opportunists setting up shop outside the doors calling out to people as they are walking out with their allotments you guys.

I was going off of my own experience in Iowa, where I went to a local grocery store and picked up one of each and then went to another store when they opened and repeated it. Obviously Iowaland is different than Chicagoland, but I had assumed that if the small-timers out here got enough for full allotments, then there had to be stores in the city (aside from the big ones) doing the same.

There were quite a few smaller shops in Chicago that didn't get their shipments until Black Friday morning after opening. Frustrating as **** when you hear about people gobbling up full allotments 4 hours after you were standing outside waiting for them to open.

If that allotment actually includes Rare, I'd triple or so that price. Plus, the time-spent-outdoors factor...

Last year, I decided to stick around the far-north burbs by my wife's family post-Thanksgiving, figuring it would be easier to snag a couple 4 packs and whatever variant I might have stumbled on. Turns out almost every small shop in the area around Gurney for 15 or so miles didn't get their allotment at all. Some were apparently told they would get theirs the following week but I find that doubtful. The only 4 pack I grabbed that day? At the Kenosha Woodman's. Where I also scored a bunch of Cranbic so I guess I won?

Piecing together all the rumors from last year, it seemed like GI was pissed all the mom and pop shops sold everything early the year before, even though they specifically told them to hold to BF. Then with how bad Walgreen's screwed it up last year and the midnight release to the "MN people", I'm guessing Walgreens gets the wrath of GI and doesn't get anything ahead of time either. So maybe the better mom and pop shops get more this year?

Why aren't we at a point where it's all a lottery system?! I feel like it's hit critical mass already and nothing good could possible come from another BF mad dash release ever again.

I will be in FL for the holiday so don't have to stress about waiting in line for 3 hours at a suburban Binny's to only have Reg left. Bright side of the whole ordeal was meeting Lognar :)

Walgreens pushes more AB product that most of those mom and pop stores. I'm sure they'll get their fair share again

Hi!!!

Twas such a cold touching of tips that was. But it was indeed a bright side to that whole ordeal.

Because GI/AB-INBev love the mass hysteria and hype. It's marketing gold! Tons of free advertising on new outlets, social media, etc.

Blind Pig on draft is tasty and Pliny wasn't as great as I remembered in the past. Reality Czech Pils is a great beer, but I mostly drank Anchor Steam on draft when eating seafood and wine with everything else. That was the lesson I learned, I primarily soaked my liver in fermented grape juice for 5 days, we even had some private tours in Napa.

Side note, I randomly ran into an old friend from high school who was walking down the street on Friday night, Tom also knows Peter from Middlebrow. Small world.

Simplified San Francisco Traveler's Tip:

Beer sucks, drink more wine, throw things at hippies...
Pete lived in San Fran milking a paycheck from some dumb tech company while starting & running middle brows finances.

BTW - 600 pages.....**** ya you dirty ass FIB's. long live the pariahs of American craft beer.

And that’s not all. Be sure to show up early. We can’t disclose all the specifics, but those at the head of the line will have extra special perks, including Goose Island gift bags, coffee, donuts, giveaways, and even the opportunity to purchase Bourbon County varieties from previous years pulled from the vault specially for this occasion. Again – that’s just for folks at the head of the line, and only at Binny’s Lincoln Park. - See more at: http://www.binnys.com/blog/blackfriday2015/#sthash.FRYu53F2.sIqfZH9l.dpuf

This also made me laugh. They WANT people to line up at noon on Thursday instead of spending it gorging on turkey and watching football....

Your average BCS drinker...

Oh, I've been over the BCBS hype train, but there is plenty of other beer I'd rather drink over wine.

To add some actual substance to this post, I'm not sure if many people go to Piece, but the last two IPA/Pale ales I've had there have been killer ... Take Back the Streets and Raw Dog have both had a pretty awesome citrus/tropical hop thing going on. Well worth trying.

Speaking of Piece, I was told by a friend yesterday that they no longer fill non-Piece growlers? Is this true? I thought they used to fill any growler in the past but I could be mistaken.

It's been far too long since I've been to Piece. Their DIPA/IPA/Pale Ale game is usually always on point. Always been a big fan of Camel Toe.

That's been my understanding for a while now.

That reminds me, I haven't done the Sunday $25 takeout special in a while. Might have to get a pie and grab a growler of one of these to crush while cursing at my fantasy teams...
