When you take away the $10 that is going to charity $75 isn't actually that horrible of a deal. The next closest venue, Side Project, is $75 as well and that's not including having to pay for gas and a hotel for the night.

It's all you can drink and all you can eat. You'd spend double that at Local Option if you wanted to try 5 different loons on tap, ate food and drank various other beers throughout the day.

This even is essentially the same price as FOBAB and I get to eat all the food I want, enjoy tons of delicious beers on tap and not have to be nuts to butts with a bunch of sweaty neckbeards.
I was initially offended by the $85 price tag, but this is actually spot on. I spent way more than $85 on food and drink at LTB this year, and that tap list had 80% less Loons on it.

This will probably happen anyway

Even later to the party, drinking my first Yuzu Fierce now. . . . one more heathen converted.

Tons of flavor in 3.8%, what lemon soda could only wish to be

Between this, middlebrow 's Cobrastyle, and the FIB War Room "Lunch in the Loop" series, this board's been a treasure trove of good ideas lately
We should toss out a date and time for lunch/happy hour in the loop or it will never happen.

Wednesday? Can I get a Wednesday? The Marq had Apex Predator on tap last week. Otherwise there is the previously mentioned Millers, Haymarket, or whatever someone else wants to recommend.
Wednesday is fine by me... or Thursday, but I have Friday off so im a little partial to that.
Any of those places would be cool.

I was just gonna say "any say but Wednesday"...that's bowling night. Thursdays and Fridays are especially good.

So Thursday, then.
I have to update my answer: I'm out this Thursday, because a buddy's taking me to a shooting range to try out his AR15 and M4...opportunities like this don't come around everyday.

I'm in for next Thursday though.

Congrats to dvelcich and Bvelcich for having Brian Urlacher out tonight and even better for supporting a great cause that literally everyone can get behind.

For those that haven't heard what Brenna & Dan are helping to support here are some links

As a personal note this totally changes my opinion of the guy as I had a negative personal experience with him back in high school that was totally cancelled out by him coming out, supporting a great cause, tipping well, and not expecting / asking for any publicity.

I know a few people who might want to enter or judge. Are there any rules/guidelines they would need to know? Does this normally fill up pretty fast?

So, who got my cellar? Face to names people!

a) I'm not on twitter b) was downtown instead of home north yesterday and c) by the time my buddy who was on twitter told me about it, it was too late to get there before 4.

Man, re-reading that, sounds like my cranky old-man legs probably wouldn't have even made it up the steps to the high first floor, anyway :)

How'd it go? How many rings did you get after 4?

I have novice judged the last two years with no issues. They will pair novices with an experienced judge, or there is always stewarding, which is a little more exercise and a little less chance of tasting something awful. It's a fun day and a great way to see how a competition works. I aways just pull up the BJCP app to refresh my memory. I have tasted tons of beer in the hobby but don't have the specifics of style memorized.

Most of the information necessary is contained in the link I posted, but we are using the 2008 BJCP style guidelines for judging.

We hit our entry limit on the last day of entry last year, so I would expect it to fill up a bit faster this year.

Cheers!

If I just wanted to show up and spectate, would I be able to sample the homebrews or would I have to judge? Also what does it take to be a judge? Do I have to have my cicerone certification?

It is going to be closed to the public until the awards ceremony.

To be a judge it takes some sensory analysis experience, a desire to judge homebrew, and a willingness to learn / adapt with multiple other judges.

No cicerone required.

Just one. Everyone else was in and out by 4. Maybe 30 total people showed up.

It went great honestly. People were super respectful and kind "Oh wow! I'll grab this" "Damn i wanted to try that!" "OH, well, here you go, i've had it before"

And over $400 was raised for Hope For The Day.
