Exposing one of my go to's isn't something I usually do but I feel they need a shout out.

Out in Blue Island, Maple Tree Inn's taplist has been bonkers for the last month.

Abyss, Old Rasputin XV (from 2012), AtG 70K, Moonlight Kurt's Apple Pie, Oude Tart all on tap tonight. Abyss and Old Raspy XV have been on for a week.

Darkness and Bourbon County finally tapped earlier this week after Darkness was on for almost THREE weeks and BCS for a week.

Beer geeks are so stupid.

Oh yeah, and they have the best Creole you'll ever eat outside of the Gulf Coast.

Not to beat a dead horse here but... where IS all the BCBS this year? As deliveries wind down this week, I've been to all the stores I bought Prop, Backyard Rye, and Coffee at last year. This year, NONE of those stores got anything but Regular and Barleywine, and on top of that, got a smaller delivery than last year. Did all the variants in Chicago seriously go to Binny's, Walgreens, and a handful of specialty stores (Beer Temple, Fischmanns, etc)? Is there an expected 2nd or 3rd wave with the variants?

Just a little perplexing. It's not like these 6-8 stores sold out immediately (a la CCBE hype train), it's that they didn't get the beer at all. I can't help but feel GI **** the bed on this one.
Noticing a lack of mention of allocating low bottle count beers (BCBS, Prop) to stores that sell a high volume of the money makers (312, Honkers). One of my small local stores got a fair amount of BCBS and variants, but was asking folks to relieve them of 12 bottles of a standard lineup goose beer to get it.

Bummer, have a wedding to go to the day of the Penrose release. Wild V is the first Penrose beer I'm legitimately excited about. It was that good at FOBAB. Everything else has ranged from meh to good but not great. Definitely happy to see Devoir 4 packs though. That's easily their best of the everyday beers.

Maybe the bottles will last until Sunday.

I declined a wedding to attend 4elf. man up.

I'm completely happy with city folk ignoring near burb beer bars. I don't make it to mine like I did when it was a block away, but i'm totally okay with it not becoming a thing, especially since it's so easy to get to via cta.

True, but it seems every suburban beer bar tapping is a shitshow these days too. Maple Tree advertised these tappings in advance on their site, participates on beer menus and yet I can drink Darkness, BCS and Abyss on the same night.

Brixies tappings tend to be reasonably quiet too, and then BavLo is a **** show for major tappings.

That menu: give me it. All of it. No room for beer.

Tribes is also a shitshow for the bigguns. If that many people want to get chocolate wasted at 5pm on a Wednesday, more power to them.

I had the sourdough bread boats with the fried catfish and a plate of voodoo nuts for those wondering. Voodoo nuts are their house smoked andouille wrapped around a clove of garlic.

You can clean up your keyboard now.

Blue Island scares them middle class basement dwelling neckbeards.

I have my eye on the blackened catfish étouffée.

Did they price reduce that BA Old Rasputin? I feel like I had seen it pop up at like 10oz for $15 and laughed (I guess 9oz for $11.50 is a bit better). Though I'm sure it'd still sell eventually.

Olde Western Avenue is a hipsters paradise. I once listened to some ****** in flannel telling his friend how great the gentrification has been for the neighborhood and how Blue Island will go through a renaissance because of it.

Srs.

$11.50 for 9oz. It kicked right before I left.

For those of you without access to CCBE:

Since everyone feels the need to spread rumors re: BCBS from folks who heard it from a person who knows someone else, I think its important to clear the air about what happened at the six corner Walgreens on black friday. I know a lot of you enjoy the soap opera and high school gossip aspect of beer more than drinking the bottles themselves, so it is with a heavy heart that I muster report there is no scandal (at least not as far as I am aware). Let’s clarify a few facts:

1) What happened was I was waiting in line at Lincoln Park Binnys with 50-100 other people, when, around 1 am in the morning, a person in front of me in line, who I had never met before, received a text from his friend telling him that the six corners Walgreens was selling BCBS. Like any one of you would have done upon hearing this, I drove to that store. When I arrived, BCBS variants were already being sold by the case to multiple customers, and I too purchased a case of each of the variants. I neither purchased one of the first, nor the last, case of any flavor of BCBS that night.

2) Assuming there was, in fact, a person arguing with the staff in order to get them to sell BCBS at midnight rather than noon, it was not me and I cannot tell you who it is because I do not know -- I was not there when this allegedly occurred. If you want to know who that person was, I suggest asking Jeb Singer, who I am told, ironically enough, helped to spread the rumors of my involvement in the Walgreens sale. It was Jeb’s friend, or at least a friend of his friend, that sent out the text about how Walgreens was selling BCBS.

3) Do not pretend for a moment that most, if not all, of you would have turned down the chance to buy a case of BCBS variants if offered the chance. There is not a person here who would have demanded the store cancel all of the transactions and put the beer back into the stock room to be sold 11 hours later. When I arrived at 1 AM, the Walgreens was already selling everything to customers by the case. All that I had to do was point to what another customer was buying when I walked in and ask “can I have that too please?” I wish the details were juicier than that, but the truth of the matter is never as interesting as innuendo and gossip.

4) People have bought limited beer by the case before. People will buy limited beer by the case again. Other people bought limited beer by the case from that store that day, not to say the least of other stores this past week. Costco and other stores, even stores with limited stock, were selling regular BCBS and BCBS barley wine by the case on black friday and throughout this week, yet no one complains about that. Why? Because at the heart of it, most people that are upset about this are upset because someone got more bottles of something that they wanted than them. As one person who messaged me upset about this incident put it so eloquently when asked about this issue: “no one cares about regular. I’ve got 3 cases of regular.”

5) There is nothing immoral or wrongful or illegal or otherwise about buying a case of a product that is being sold by the case. By the very token of logic forming the basis of why people are upset about the Walgreens incident, they should be focusing their butthurt on the people that are flagrantly bragging about leaving Costcos and Jewel Oscos with cases of regular bourbon county for $25 per case because the clerk scanned the bar codes/cases incorrectly. That is no different than a clerk giving you change for a $20 even though you handed her a $10 bill, and walking out of the store with a big smile on your face. There is not a single person buying BCBS by the case that did not know what the price should have been.

6) All week, people have been truck chasing, bribing delivery drivers, bribing store owners, and buying out stores’ whole allocations single handedly across the country, let alone Chicago (but it’s only this “mysterious” Walgreens story that people are talking about). Me getting a couple of bottles that were already for sale in a sea of tens of thousands of bottles from a single store amongst hundreds of thousands of stores did not impact the release of bourbon county across the country or the city of Chicago. Had I not bought the bottles, I assure you that someone else would have, and not too much later than when I arrived, as 5 or more people quickly filled in behind me seeking bourbon county (they too purchased by the case). My actions that night had a trivial impact upon the BCBS release – even the release at that specific store.

7) The only person who really has a right to be upset over the Walgreens matter is the person who was in front of me in line at Lincoln Park Binnys, who I left there without offering a ride to go to the store with me. Admittedly, that was a dick move on my part, and frankly I should have brought him with me to Walgreens so that he could have gotten a case of the BCBS variants for himself too. To make amends for this, I ultimately gave this person 1/3 of the bottles that I bought at Walgreens. Why 1/3? Because my friend who camped out at Vav’s store overnight and went to Walgreens with me also bought BCBS variants by the case. We divvied up the bottles purchased at Walgreens 3-ways.

8) If given the opportunity to have a do-over on what happened Friday morning, the only thing that I would change about what went down is that I would have brought the person waiting in line in front of me with me to Walgreens.

9) People need to get over their entitlement and jealously issues, and their almost fanatical religious need to assert their personal moral code on others. I am sincerely sorry that Anheuser Busch did not release a product in a way that ensured you got more bottles. Keep pretending you would not have done the same thing that I did if given the chance; I’m sure it helps you sleep at night. This has only blown up because there is a very vocal minority of people who do not care for me that talk louder than others, and sadly have nothing better to do with their free time than talk about me.

Sincerely yours,

Everyone’s favorite villain.

PS, this is my exclusive, definitive statement about this matter. I have nothing more to say about it, and I am not going to reply to this thread because (1) this is a trivial, non-issue that had no impact on the bourbon county release in Chicago or across the country or even at that specific Walgreens, and (2) I’m sure the comments on this thread will drag out into eternity. The only reason I am addressing this at all is that a lot of people are asking what happened, and I am not ashamed to share the story because nothing scandalous or wrongful occurred. A store was selling bottles, and I bought bottles. Someone better call the Washington Post.

PPS, “Props” on the photoshop pics, even I laughed at those.

TLDR: ******* JEG.

Unpopular belief? If Asado started doing BA coffee on the level of Dark Matter I would never drink anything else. Their regular lineup is unbelievable.

if a man that wears a certain hat is defending you, you know you're on the wrong side. below is the quote from the dingus from the facebox -

"I agree strongly with Jeff Gross statement and he is not trying to draw attention to himself. All I see is a bunch of hypocrites harassing those who got more then you. Obviously those of haven't figured out its Easter in November and go get as many bottles as you can then share it with someone else plus this whole thing about "Sharing" a bottle before purchasing doesn't make sense, it's a free market, buy then share, buy then share. Thank you for writing this Jeff, because I know how horrible this fells."
