Shimkos is a great guy.

He was at Hoffbrau. Then he went to Ale Syndicate doing some consulting largely (Which is actually where I hear Richard Grant is now). Then he finally found a way to get his project up and running (in fact, the other guy is in the band that always did events at Flossmoor called "Nic Jones All Stars").

I just think it's pretty hard to get up and running. A lot harder than some of us may realize. Coupled with the fact that a lot of brewers KNEW he was still pretty serious about his own project.. perhaps that made him look like more of a short term hire to them?

I'm part of the JWB reserve society. I'm painfully aware.

I picked the old standard of a duel because, like in the late 17/early 1800s, most people involved will almost be too fat to walk the 20 paces required...much less run around with bows and arrows and ****.
That or a modern interpretation of jousting, but instead of horses, use Hoverrounds.

I'm not defending anyone, and I have no idea what happened, but as a hypothetical -- if you knew there was a store selling cases of variants under possibly shady circumstances to other people, would you go buy cases for yourself? I'm not sure I wouldn't. Like I said I don't know the circumstances, which could obviously change the answer.

I have no dog in this fight, but I think it's an interesting question.
No

When I was still pretty green in the craft beer scene in Chicago I remember seeing Jeg at releases and tappings all over. My first Dark Lord Day I got a BVDL and he was bugging the **** out of me trying to get me to trade it. Just looking at him gave me the feeling that he is a ****** bag and was trying to rip me off so I declined. Glad I went with my gut on that one!

At 1am ,the morning after Thanksgiving, I doubt I would. And if I did have the motivation to actually go down there, I highly doubt I'd buy a case of everything. I wouldn't be able to afford it, foremost.

It's a minor point (and I'm not saying anything about convincing them to sell early, which is a different issue). For my part there's zero chance I'm out hunting for beer at 1am that morning anyway. I had a handful of people I really wanted to send a Prop to, so a case is probably overkill for me but tempting.

We need to have like a 32-man duel tourney to put an end to all this BCBS/internet flexing business since nobody ever says **** when they see each other anyway. I volunteer to set up the bracket and provide weaponry...everyone must provide their own 2nd.

Single elimination obv.

If I were to ever meet JEG, I'd be sure to tell him how much of a dick weed he is.

I'm failing to see the horrible crime here. He bought a case before the release time? That's it? Go talk to Walgreen's then. They are the ones who sold it in the quantity and at the hour. GI might have had "rules" for the sale, but that's an issue between them, their distributor, and Walgreen's. Walgreen's has no legal obligation to abide by GI's rules, nor does the consumer.

It's definitely a valid consideration. And I'm sure a number of you guys have regulars you wanted to hook up, so I can see the appeal of getting a large chunk in one swoop.

Holy **** we are in the company of an American lambic legend

It's not the fact it was done, it's the fact that this little terd is always at the center of any beer related controversies around here.

No crimes committed--but is it not a dick move to con store employees into selling you a product that they clearly intend to sell at a later advertised date (there were even signs in the store) at which time you'd definitely not being buying by the case?

I would definitely buy cases of it awlllll if I could afford it.

Don't get me wrong -- I think my disdain for most of Jeeeeaaffff's **** is pretty well proclaimed, but I also fail to see why everyone has their hate on high for this. The guys buying this **** (yes, there were more than just JEG...gasp) didn't do anything wrong. The store sold it to them...this isn't even on the level of those old BA "heehee scored a 6er of Storm King for $7.99 out of the mix-6 section" threads.

The only thing I dislike is that someone I know wasn't one of the people walking out with an assload of stuff so I could drink all of it.

the controversy is this:

'Someone we all hate got beer that we all wanted and he's also a dick'

I think the original controversy was that it was rumored JEG strong-armed the guy at Walgreen's into selling early knowing full well what he was doing. I think that has since been cleared and I see no problem with what JEG did. If someone told me "hey, this place is selling variants, with no limit, and there's no one here" I would have done the same thing and went and bought what my wallet allowed.

What doesn't change is how much of a micro-penis JEG is in real life and how he defines what we all hate about craft beer (completely outside of this incident). I think the already standing hatred for JEG is being blurred on this subject and is just an excuse for people to hate him more. Hate him for hiring homeless people to buy Side Project releases or being an insufferable choad as a person with the personality of a lamp, but don't hate him for doing something everyone else would have done, whether they admit to it or not.

not to go around and around but the crime was that a bunch of people fast talked and conned the woman into selling them the beer. Believe it or not, the sharpest tools in the shed aren't working at walgreens at midnight on thanksgiving. And then that employee got fired the day after thanksgiving. I got no dog (except that adorable one in the picture) in the fight but the job loss coupled with being fast talked by some hot shot lawyers just came off as bad.

I was under the impression the job loss was also a rumor perpetuated by the same people blaming JEG for the whole thing.

oh, if thats the case, then f*ck it. sh*tty behavior but oh well.

The one morning I don't check in, there's a neckbrace party.

The irony of him explaining himself and making it even worse... Awesome.

You could tell me my corner shop is selling cases of Prop and I would not buy one. I would tell some other people in the area about it and be done with it. I've already got some to drink. What more do I need? Only reason to buy cases is to spin it off and try to win trades. Not interested. Much rather see some local guys add a few to their collection.

Like daniel said, it just comes down to common courtesy, and not being a selfish prick. I guess that's way too complicated for some people.

you have to admit, we are living up to the FIB name & stereotype pretty well.
this is the fib war room after all...
my personal favorite part... he points a finger at me... and clearly has me blocked on FB because I cant find the essay post anywhere and i've spent the better part of my Friday morning triyng to for the lulz it would give me.

He apparently talks **** about me to theeabyss all the time, despite never doing anything directly to him besides calling him out on his bull ****. Quite petty and hilarious.

if you're not blocked please report to me on the lulz going on in that.

all i did was mention to a few folks that he already had cases of each...
did i get **** from that? nope got my 5 total bottles and went home. 1:15AM-7:30pm that was enough time in the cold for me.

Quite petty and hilarious.

All of this is quite petty and not hilarious.

Who gives a ****? If he didn't buy it, someone else would have (as long as he isn't the one that actually knowingly talked the employee into selling it early). Perpetuating the ****-talking and using him as a scapegoat isn't helping the degrading scene that everyone complains about so much.

I really don't know what's worse; the middle school girl - cool table - **** talking or the actual behavior of truck chasers/hoarders (or my grammar).

I was speaking in terms of JEG talking **** about me to theeabyss, not everything else. That's hilarious to me. I haven't chimed in once on the other matter because I don't give a ****.
