Just a little perplexing. It's not like these 6-8 stores sold out immediately (a la CCBE hype train), it's that they didn't get the beer at all. I can't help but feel GI **** the bed on this one.

Just seonding, thirding, nth-ing the notion. Smaller stores that knew about BCBS last year said "we got a ton last year" this year a few cases of reg, maybe BW, or coffee if they're lucky.

Stores I stopped into last year that had, say, BW in the cooler and knew nothing about what BCBS was, this year are like "we got a case of regular and it sold out instantly."

Also, I considered the Black Friday stores wave 1, and the distro this week wave 2 - not wave 2 to any one store....hope I'm wrong.

Agreed. Had a ton of money saved up for the BCBS release this year. Couldn't find it, so I used the money to re-up my Transient membership. I win.
speaking of that, did you notice when you pay the invoice it goes to one trick ponys rocketmail address? what f*ckin decade is this? How the hell do they still have a rocketmail account?

Thats ok I have a feeling it might be a disaster the way releases have been in this city lately. Im still up in the air if I want to attend.

From the other site Eric Hobbs confirmed the bottle count on Penrose Wilds are around 300 of each

Hobbs is an excellent marketer. That bottle count is low enough to convince like 20 more twatburglers to make the trip out to Geneva. Can't wait until folks start asking how their growlers are sealed/how long they could age a howler of the imperial stout on draft. I also can't wait for half of those dweebs to complain about the beer not being sour enough despite it being a Brett wild ale. I've seen the untappd reviews on at least 3 draft only Brett beers with exactly those responses despite the fact they aren't supposed to be sour. Oh who am I kidding, they won't actually open the bottles to taste them.

Should be fun times. If you haven't seen the taproom, it's a pretty great space. Couple nice brewpubs down the block with solid food. Plenty of shopping on 3rd Street in Geneva, so bring the fam. Get the wife and kids (and yourself) some treats down the road from Sugar Path. Eat at Bien Trucha. Win the day.

FTFChicago

So at 300 bottles I'm guessing it'll be a 1/pp release?

i wasn't planning on going at all to the penrose thing since that is my anniversary weekend, so i'll be watching to see just how shitshow it gets and maybe use that as a gauge as to whether i try and hit the next (january?) release.

double wanting penrose to start a reserve society...

You think I'm going to Geneva for an event that we know in advance will likely be an utter shitshow? When I could just as easily lounge in the paradise that is DeKalb? And you want me to bring innocent bystanders into it?

u crazy gurl

so its not just powz87 and playaplaya out in the cornfields...

I'm guessing Penrose isn't releasing allocations since it's their first release. They don't know who is showing up. If 50 people show up, then you could probably get 3 or 4 of each. If 150 people show, then you're looking at 1 to 2. I wouldn't travel very far thinking I'd get more than 1 per person at this point. They've been getting plenty of press from the Trib, Reader, GBH, and bottleshops around Chicagoland. That combined with it being the first 375 mL wild ale release means I'd think 100 or so folks will show up by 11. The weather will dictate the crowd I'd say.

I wouldn't hold out for a reserve society. They have investor backing. TK doesn't want to be beholden to any group to release a beer until he thinks it's ready or whether or not to release a beer at all. I've never got the impression from either of them that they like the society model.

Just called Rayan's to ask about BCBS.

"No" followed by what sounded like "sold out", but he was mumbling so I began to ask him to repeat when...

<click>

And zero beers will be purchased there going forward.

Haha can't say I'm too surprised by that behavior. I can't imagine how annoying these last few weeks have been for stores.

Bummer, have a wedding to go to the day of the Penrose release. Wild V is the first Penrose beer I'm legitimately excited about. It was that good at FOBAB. Everything else has ranged from meh to good but not great. Definitely happy to see Devoir 4 packs though. That's easily their best of the everyday beers.

Maybe the bottles will last until Sunday.

Yeah, probably has been. But that comes with the job of selling craft beer and limited stuff occasionally. They've never been particularly friendly, but I've put up with it because it's the only store I don't need to drive to, and they have decent prices otherwise. Also, in my case, it could have been more easily handled by not hiding information from me the last several times I was in the store buying their g-damn beer.

Curious if people scored any here and wouldn't mind sharing how.

Oh yeah I'm definitely not excusing their behavior. After getting mocked by the guy at Georges in Palatine when I went in there on Black Friday there is no way in hell I'll ever go back.

I'm not sure where exactly you live, but I use to buy stuff from La Primera at Clark and Winnemac when I lived up there. Nothing amazing about their selection, but I could usually find something and they were nice. I gave up on Andersonville Wine and Spirits as their prices increased as well as their ineptitude (anytime something like KBS or Bell's Batch 9000 came in, they'd say the guy working during the day sold the whole case to someone).

Yeah, have been to La Primera occasionally. Next closest place for me (I'm near Starbucks on Wilson). They have that parking lot too so maybe will just start going there.

I wish there were a "Dumb Beer Prices Around Chicago" thread. Been meaning to keep track of ones for awhile.

The latest, surprisingly, from Hopleaf. Todd the Axe Man at a cool $6 for 6oz. Was $5.50 for 11oz at Four Moon last night. I think Sheffield's had 16oz for $6. Northdown was like 13oz for $6. Maybe it's a misprint.

I had full pints of Axe Man at Northdown on 10/25 (dat memory) for $7. I had to stop myself at 3. It was hard.

Yeah, that was it, remember the pint glass there now. And I think I was there on Tuesday and was $1 off pints. Either way, nothing even in the ballpark of $1/oz.
