I find it so odd and confusing, nobody went nuts when Enigma and Cranbic were released and this Oud Bruin is flying off the shelf. Either this is the greatest Oud Bruin ever created or you people are ******* nuts...

more like post wild sour (which iirc came before the vsb release). wild sour pretty much won my award for 'best value in beer' last year and with that plus vsb hype (which imo is deserved) all us fibs are fibbin'

Hasn't it been out for like a week?
I'm not sure, to be honest. I know the brewery had it for sale since last Thursday. I think it just hit distro this week and a buddy said he first saw it in Kenosha yesterday. Apparently (and this isn't a confirmed fact), Woodman's Kenosha only got 45 cases.

I HIGHLY doubt they sold out this week, it never has, even with the second round of berliner.

Here's hoping the release before the Great Taste is spread over a longer time period (Thursday-Sunday?) and the numbers are significantly higher than the VSB release. Still going to be crazy, but perhaps a fraction less so.

At this point, I'm expecting Friday to Sunday, although if the production numbers are high enough, it might allow for Thursday releases as well. Definitely won't be one day only. The MHTG members did not like that back in 2010.

All aboard the hype train, WoohWooh!

I think I liked both Enigma and Cranbic better than Oud Bruin. Ergo, the latter.

The store I was at yesterday in Milwaukee, a guy bought a case of Oud Bruin. I asked if he had tried it. He said no. I suppose I hope he likes it.

Oud Bruin is a good beer and a solid representation of the style. It is not the second coming of VSB, or even Wild Sour for that matter. In my humble opinion.

I'll be buying a case before I try it for the simple fact that I enjoy the style, I haven't had a New Glarus sour that I didn't like, and I trust Dan Carey with his product more than any other brewer in the world. Besides, New Glarus thumbprints make fantastic extras. However, I get your point.

All fair points, assuming there's enough to go 'round.

I know a guy who purchased four cases without having tried the beer. It's all hype and hopeful trade value at this point.

  1. Is it new? ✓
  2. Will the supply be somewhat limited? ✓
  3. Is there potential for me to look like a beer king if this is actually a good beer and holds some trade value in the future? ✓
The criteria is met. Time to buy as much as possible and flood social media with your greatness. Beer is for bragging rights, not consumption.

100% accurate, sadly.

I don't think this beer will trade particularly well, but time will tell on that one. Tickers gotta tick, and whatnot, but as I mentioned above, I don't expect it will blow too many minds...
