Now that DLD has passed, anybody else excited for BUG? I'm interested to see who all will be there this year, and what the hot spots will be. I remember last year Deschutes had recently entered the market and had Abyss, Pipeworks released MariLime Law, Half Acre had Galactic Double Daisy, and Goose had Sofie Paradisi. Goose Clybourn was my champion table of the day with Flanders Red. Based on everybody with a propane tank and some kettles opening breweries in the past year, I am a tad worried that BUG could turn into...

4 PACK CANS OR DIE.
Right there with you stxSS07 ! I am sick of paying $10+ for ******* ipa/dipa's. Let me know when you can package it more affordably and I will buy it then. The messed up thing is, HA can easily can anything now with the shrink wrap labels they have for cans. This goes for every brewery that cans too! Death to Bombers!!!

Half Acre has the ability to produce both cans and bombers. Why not release both at the same price point?

Fremont just did this last week with the release of The Brother, their Imperial IPA.

4-pack 12 oz. cans: $10.99
22 oz. bomber: $4.99

Overall price per oz is essentially the same ($0.23/oz), and the consumer then can choose which format he/she prefers.

Why not?

I believe it costs more to setup a canning run because of the labeling. Also, who is going to buy a $30 4 pack?

At $9.99/bomber, the cost of a four pack of 12 oz. cans would be around $21.99 under the Fremont model. As I said, allowing the consumer to choose between $21.99 vs. $9.99 seems reasonable, no? I know I would choose the $21.99 option, but that's just me.

They only do 16oz cans and even though the price per oz would be the same. I think they would have a difficult time selling a $30 4 pack.

Edit: I also think if they sold 4 packs for $30 it would piss off a lot of people that remember buying 4 packs 2 years ago for $17.

Now I see where you were coming from, and I agree. So the issue really arises in that their selling four-packs at $15-$16 two years ago has set up the expectation that they might revert back to those price points upon each GDDC release. Seeing that they have not done that in subsequent releases thus far, it might be a bit difficult to revert back to the $15-$16/64 oz. prices.

The problem is bomber prices are just too damn high. 12 oz bottles or 12/16oz cans tend to me less $/oz. So releasing cans and bombers at same $/oz doesn't help anything. I want less bombers because that almost always means lower $/oz.

Only way to change this is for the marketplace to stop buying the product. Out here in the PNW, there are hundreds of IPAs that sit around for months in bombers. When cans are released of the same product, it moves much faster. Breweries are catching on to this behavior, and if they have the capital, are putting out more canned product options. (Boneyard has explored a canning option, Bale Breaker is now out in cans, Fremont has been putting out more options in cans, etc.) Problem is just that though - capital requirements, as well as dilution of the perception of value - why would consumers buy a 22 oz. bomber at $10 when you can get a four-pack of cans for $16, etc?

I have not attended a lot of CCBW events over the past few years, but the one that stands out was Haymarket's when they had a ton of Pizza Port beers on tap (no not Port). Not sure if there is any legal things that do not allow more of this, but I would much rather go to an event that has out of market beers than "semi-rare" local beers.

Does anyone else think the Chicago Craft Beer Week events have gotten progressively worse over the years. This year looks so bland.
The Haymarket Mini-FOBAB sounds like a good time.......except that it's $55 per ticket!
Worries me what this year's FOBAB tickets will cost with the change of venue.

Getting sick of all of these ticketed events. Maybe I don't have hours to drink at this one bar, want to try all the beers or spend $50+! Some events I can see the need because of demand, but just tap a bunch of awesome beers throughout the day and be done with it.
