They were all fine, I am not a huge Frank Cornelissen fan, especially after we had some really off bottles of Contadino a few years back. We showed up post chaos, where the Cream rep literally was like I gotta go, handed me the bottles he was tasting out and told me to help myself. Susu is fun to have on hand, but definitely have had way better rosés, Rosso is probably my favorite of all his wines and I passed on this year's as the barnyard funk was bit much for me.

I personally enjoy just randomly exploring random natural wines and pet nats, maybe picking up a bottle or two here and there and moving on. For one thing, it seems like it's almost impossible to keep wines I like in stock on a regular basis and the randomness of experimenting is what makes it fun. I'll leave all the rules and stuffiness to my somm uncle and brother...

I don't think it's a matter of "classic" or "modern." It's a matter of separating yourself from a business plan out of the Woodstock '99 era (I made that reference just for you!). The list I saw on Saturday wasn't bad because it was too "classic;" It was bad because it was boring.

I thought this place sounded great per your description, the styles of beer they brewed are some of my favorites; Mild and Schwarzbier. To me theres nothing boring there. If one can execute these two styles well, it speaks volumes about their skill as a brewer. These are the kind of quaffable beers I want to drink on a regular basis.

Half Acre and Rev both make a killer Dark Mild <3

I'm already going to be in the city for the Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon, so I'm going to head over. Sounds weird, but I think Rev has earned a level of trust that it's probably tasty. Worst case scenario, get a VSOJ and DB VSOJ draft, then take the train home. Works for me.

In fairness, every Riverlands beer I've had head to head with a Phase 3 beer has been better. By a fair margin. They don't have to push out allocations to retail accounts every week like some of these hazy breweries, so their beers actually taste finished. So if folks lose their mind over Phase 3, but Riverlands is better than I get what Powz is saying. Also, we tried to go there yesterday for the food truck and hang out at 3PM and it was standing room only. It's not a small place. Seating area alone I'm guessing is 4,000 sf.

Thats not saying much either, lol. Phase Three beers that ive had were mediocre to bad.
But I trust DP and you if you say so... Ill have to give them another shot. The one beer I had from them was alright, but overly sweet and laiden with lactose and vanilla.

I didn't grab this batch of cans on Sunday because it was so busy, but the first DIPA they canned was undercarbed at best. I don't know if that's what you had, but I'd lean toward their beer on draft or fresh crowler. Crowlers have been way better than the first can release.

It's all relative. I like Riverlands because it's at least comparable to the hazy can releases that sell out immediately each release and it's 3 miles from my house. If you placed their beer on draft at a downtown Chicago account, it'll certainly be on the level but I don't know that it would stand out.

I don't think any of these newish breweries have beers dialed in to the level of the regional players. Astro Dwarf from Pipeworks last week was damn phenomenal to me. It's fun to try new beers, but it's really hard to truly compare to PW, Rev, and HA.

You don’t have to enjoy the same things that I do Tom. It’s not a big deal lol. Personally I love riverlands. It’s 20mins from my house and it’s easy to get to. I don’t have to deal with any traffic and the acid rainbow series fux
