I've never quite understood why Chicagoland BBQ is so weak. We clearly like to eat around here and I've never understood why we don't have some stronger options

Completely disagree. I think Chicago is the best city for BBQ that falls outside of the typical belt of KC/Texas/Memphis/Carolina.

I'd put Green Street Meats, Smoque, Honky Tonk, and Lillies Q against most of what good barbeque cities can offer.

Even our pretentious place Chicago Q is pretty decent

Also I miss Smalls Smoke Shack. In memoriam.

Also, **** yeah Alarmist. Gary is one of the most refreshing people i've ever met in this industry, and he works hard and is completely humble, he's open and honest about his business in a way not many are, he's a good person, and they make great beer.

So from the last few pages of this thread it seems people are from my neck of the woods (oak forest). So you guys want to drink some beers?
Sorry dude. You're about 2 hours too late with me.

Rogers Park/Evanston if you’re looking for good jerk/Jamaican. (Since this food convo was getting so S. Suburb focused) ;)

Having lived in Evanston and Rogers Park and now living on the South Side I miss having good [Chinese/Sushi/Indian/Thai/Mediterranean/Jamaican] all over the place. However if you want beef sandwiches and pizza we got you covered.

There was a tremendous Jerk place in Country Club Hills called Kingstons. The Jamaican chef would come walking in reeking like pot. That's how you knew it was legit. He moved on and the place has sucked ever since.

glad to hear this, as i generally prefer their stuff over my other localish brewery, old irving.

I mean I don’t think they ever brewed there anyway. Which is dumb, because they were buying their own beer through a distributor. Or being shady and transferring before the the law bill passed.
it was weird, like they opened the taproom and brewpub in the same year. as a t-shirt i think from parks & rec once said - whole ass one thing, dont half ass two things.

South Suburbanites, someone sent me this message from a restaurant in Blue Island's Facebook page:

Maple Tree hasn't announced anything themselves yet and this sounds like the strangest arrangement. I am very much looking forward to visiting next week.

Sadly, Maple Tree announced last week the entire original restaurant has to be demolished as the damage to the structure was worse than they feared. Sad times. That old building was beautiful. The ornate bar was beautiful.

So I've seen BJ's in Oswego, vav and The Beer Cellar all announce Jester King events / releases today.

Just another small drop or the precursor to them announcing Chicagoland as a new market?

I'm so glad you didn't use the oxford comma here. I'm unfamiliar with that store, so I definitely got a good laugh when I read it too fast the first time.

It got some notoriety (not sure if deserved or not) as it was the store that Justin Carrol kept highlighting in his IP Trading group on Facebook.

The owner I believe has some connection with Oswego Brewing Company (Marc Wilson, who is the head brewer and former guy at Nevins / Midnight Pig, is a good dude), but not sure what exactly it is.

Well, my event has been in planning for about a half of a year now. We ended up having to push the date a few times to make it work, but it would make sense that JK would plan a bunch of events around a visit to the market.

And they're already in Chicagoland as a market, they just send as needed rather than flood it. It's kind of refreshing honestly.

They are a Shelton brand, yeah? Would make perfect sense to make drops when they are sending Cantillon and related beverages around Zwanze locations. Just speculation from me here.
