Well **** that new Pilot Project place, their poorly trained FoH staff turned us away at 4:58pm because we had our daughter with us. We were basically told, “Like sorry, it’s 21+ at 5pm.”, so we were like alright that’s weird since they opened at 4pm. Confused, we decided to walk over to Middlebrow instead and as we passed by the front we noticed a bunch of parents inside and out on their patio. That just ******* pissed me off, I’m also known for a short fuse, but that place will never get any business or recommendations from me. Guess we made the mistake by not just going to The Bungelow in the first place...

So I’m gunna say this nicely since we’ve always had a good relationship and I like you: if you’re going to publicly put a brand new place on blast for not having all their **** together 58 minutes after opening on their first day and call their FOH staff poorly trained because the well-intentioned-but-probably-needs-adjusting rule was tested by 2 minutes once again 58 minutes after opening, you can go **** yourself right onto Yelp with that ********.

Putting people on blast- as the kids say- is how rules like this get adjusted. "**** this place forever" is harsh no matter what the situation, sure. But calling out a place for a stupid rule enforced poorly should elicit management to review that.

And frankly, any genius who thinks "Ok, we'll let kids in but there's a 1 hour window that you have to get here with them!" is an okay policy is maybe going to have a lot of growing pains running a business like this. Either you appeal to families and have a reasonable no-kids cut-off time (7p or 8p) or don't allow kids at all.

I have spoken with Dan privately and he’s also a parent and after a good conversation he plans on lifting the rule. Most people with kids don’t stay out past 7-8pm and of a place is super crowded usually don’t bother going into an establishment. He seems more than open to changing and appreciated my feedback.

Putting people on blast did open up a conversation and definitely made changes. So it did work, I have a hot temper and definitely can go overboard and in this situation it worked for the better. I also removed the reviews, so there’s that, I’m an *******, but not a complete one. I also know how irritated Yelp makes people...

Simultaneous Worldwide Tapping at 2pm Central Time, Saturday Sept 28.

What is it?:
The idea behind Zwanze Day is to offer an opportunity for as many people as possible to try both rare and “regular” Cantillon lambics by giving them a set time and place where they’ll be able to find the beer at an approachable price. The brewery’s desire to have this be as inclusive as possible was a direct response to their limited releases ending up in the hands of a few geeks buying bottles for hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars each on the secondary market. They want more casual fans to be able to drink and enjoy the beer rather than only covet it. The Zwanze beer is different every year. There will be many other Cantillon beers and Lambics from other Belgian breweries, both on draft and in bottles.

Some notes from Jean on this year’s beer:
The beer for this year’s Zwanze was brewed in March 2016 and kegged January 26th 2018.
Contrary to past Zwanze beers, this one is not the result of a special blend or the addition of a special fruit, but of a wholly unique brew. On March 1st 2016, we brewed a smoked Lambic using a blend of classic pilsner malt and smoked malt. Rather than taking the beer to an extreme, we looked instead to find a balance between the acidic character of Lambic and the woodiness of the smoked malt. The result is a fine Gueuze with the classic notes of a Cantillon, complemented by an elegant smokiness in the nose and on the palate.

I'm a staunch Hopleaf supporter, but might have to sit this one out if those details are correct. Would suck to miss my first zwanze, but $50 for 2 pours is a little rich for me.

I mean it sounds like you could show up without a ticket, and still drink all the lambic except for Zwanze itself. (Unless the keg hasn’t kicked by 5pm which is the token cutoff)

I guess the plus side of Hopleaf still being open to the public is that anyone could go and (theoretically) purchase pours of anything else they have available without having to purchase the special Zwanze pour token?
