Amazing that anyone who showed up was admitted. For Christ's sake, JEG was allowed in. Hate WLV all you want, but there is no conspiracy.

There was nothing private about it.

Yep. That’s it. No hype, no marketing, no lines, no ********. Show up and drink beer or don’t. It wasn’t invite only, it wasn’t private, it wasn’t for those “in the know.” it just was.

It’s refreshing to see someone do basically a repeat of 2011 and watch the entitlement come out. “I MUST KNOW BECAUSE I MUST HAVE” Get outta here with that attitude.

You have to admit it is a little strange to not post any details on social media, not answer the phone, and not respond to any requests for information, while giving information to select people. It gives off the vibe like you don't want people to show up. Doesn't help that people who attended were telling others it is private or not happening. Good way to keep the lines down and shitlords out I guess.

Not that it affected me, I had family commitments and couldn't go either way.

Would it be a bad thing if they didn't want people to come?

I mean if I could have made it I would have been happy about the radio silence to keep the crowds down ;)
Don't think I'm singling you out or putting words in your mouth here, it's just interesting to me. Beer geeks want extensive details well in advance. WLV might not want a lot of people there. Beer geeks are mad they might not want a lot of people there.

Is it their duty to put on a huge, well publicized event? Why does WLV owe the event to us? I guess Cantillon might care but knowing how close Kristina is with JVR, I highly doubt he cares what she does with the event.

I think they can do what they want. They don't owe it to anyone to post extensive details. Cantillon does have them listed as a location for Zwanze so it's not like it is a secret.

Just thought they could have taken 5 seconds to type in "yes" when someone asked "Is Zwanze Day still on?"

I had no interest in going but it seems to me the most entitlement was displayed by Kristina, not people just trying to confirm the thing was even happening.

What the **** dude.
With respect to you and everyone defending this, this is just not how you run an event.

And I admit that I have more than just this mismanagement of Zwanze against her since I worked there for nearly a year. It was easily the most hostile work environment I have ever been involved in; I worked literally illegal hours for unreasonable compensation that was leveraged against me due to the power dynamic and Kristina's temper; I had wages withheld; I was forced to clean up all her personal messes; and I and my fellow employees at the time were subject to psychological abuse at Kristina's behest. I'm not exaggerating on any of this.

Anyway, I'll apologize for calling her a ****. It isn't cool to sink to her level. I was never planning to go to Zwanze here or anywhere because I have family in town anyway. I just think It's really ****** and not in the spirit of Zwanze to even imply that it isn't a public event or even imply that the event isn't happening by not confirming anything. I'm sure it isn't what JVR had in mind. It's not surprising though, knowing Kristina all too well. It is what it is. Hope it moves elsewhere next year.

I dunno. Maybe I’m naive. But I don’t think Zwanze should belong to her to only invite who she likes. I think she is the custodian of a bigger event than her little store and keeping it a secret is a dbag move. Hopefully Quinn gets it asap

Just to be clear anyone off the street could have walked in at any point all afternoon to have buckets of cantillon paired with great food and good company. Same as always. Let’s stop talking about invites.

What I want to know is, are they really closed, or are we going to have the 2015 to 2016 Binnys Black Friday snap back for Zwanze next year - Binnys LP 2015 “got through line in 2 hours, looped through for multiple full allotments.” After that story is repeated many times, 2016 “took me 4 hours and I got 1 BW” :)

Kind of hard to walk in off the street if you arent in the area.... or didnt get off of work, or made other plans because there were no public announcements. Great for locals, but their location represents an entire area, not just their own personal bubble.

As someone completely out of the loop:

Everyone knew/saw that WLV made the Zwanze list but because there weren't posts like"We're going to have Gueuze randalled through JVR's 2010 crocs!!!!! @ 3pm" on social media people didn't show up because they thought despite being announced as a location they just weren't doing it?

I have to be missing something.

I think there is a bit more to it:

1. They have appeared to be closed for the last couple weeks. And have not answered the phone.

2. People reported a closing sign out front.

3. They made zero social media posts even suggesting it is happening. When in the past they had. (Not even basic details like: starts at noon, tickets are $85).

4. People asking them on FB/Twitter if Zwanze day is happening were ignored.

I think those are enough reason to wonder what is going on.

Then you had people reporting it would be private or cancelled. Some of these people knew that wasn't true and we're trolling. The situation made the trolling believable.

LOL at people actually emailing Cantillon though.

I know the first person I think of as being respectful is the person who posts for the first time in almost 3 years just to call a woman a derogatory name!
I don't respect her, nor do I need to. She has earned every bit of my disrespect, and most people that have worked there or dealt with her would tell you the same.

Still, didn't mean to offend you guys, so I'm sorry.

I appreciate all that. ****** bosses suck and so do misogynistic insults.

all of this. people are making it out to seem like asking a business to provide the most minimal and basic details about a public event when every single other location who hosted the event did so is somehow “entitlement”. i wasn’t planning on going there either way, but i personally find it to be a ****** practice that wasn’t keeping in the spirit of the event.

It wasn't invite only. The event was already confirmed as happening. A lack of details doesn't mean for some reason it's not happening. It was globally announced that WLV would be a location to get Zwanze on Zwanze day.

The entitlement i heatedly referenced yesterday stems from what seemingly everyone was freaking out about: No additional info. Again, what additional info was *actually* needed for Zwanze Day, a day dedicated to Zwanze, other than where the brewery said it would be available?

Scalzo said this made it only accessible to a little bubble of people, but i find that line of thought disingenuous, because it presumes anyone outside of the bubble is somehow entitled to it.

Anyway, I'll apologize for calling her a homie. It isn't cool to sink to her level. I was never planning to go to Zwanze here or anywhere because I have family in town anyway. I just think It's really ****** and not in the spirit of Zwanze to even imply that it isn't a public event or even imply that the event isn't happening by not confirming anything. Kristina has a long history of going guns blazing about things she doesn't like, or at people she doesn't like, or when she's in a terrible mood, or whatever. I've been on the receiving end of it. Great, it's common knowledge. That has absolutely *nothing* to do with Zwanze Day, or your reaction to it. I've run a zillion beer events/activations/whatever over the years, and each one had varying levels of success or failure. If Zwanze came to Publican and i didn't post any details, how many out there would be calling me a **** for it?

The "This is not how you run an event" comment is ridiculous, however, and i will absolutely call you to task on it. How is it "Mismanagement" of the event? By who's definition are you gauging the success of the event? Kristina's? Cantillon's? The übernerds that show up every year to slam Loons?

You then go on to say "I just think It's really ****** and not in the spirit of Zwanze to even imply that it isn't a public event or even imply that the event isn't happening by not confirming anything."

No one implied it wasn't a public event or that it wasn't happening. You and many others projected an outcome here, and you were all wrong.

I absolutely appreciate your apology, but i'm less tripped out by the name calling as i am your perception of what you think the event is and what makes it "successful."

--

Kristina didn't advertise, didn't stoke the flames of commerce, didn't promise to tap a bunch of .rar stuff, didn't offer anything. I think that's great, and i think it's ludicrous she's being lit up for it.

I've not advertised having Cantillon any time i've gotten it at Pub, so am i doing Cantillon a disservice or Publican? Am i mismanaging my beer program by potentially missing out on sales from the people that would come in just to buy Cantillon, or would i be mismanaging my beer program by only selling it to those who could just come in to buy Cantillon?

I used to see this **** all the time at Binny's, no amount of info was ever good enough. My last Abraxas release was really fun. One phone call sticks out in particular"

"Oh you're releasing Abraxxas, what's the limit?"
Depends on how many show up.
"Well how many are going to show up?"
I don't know.
"Well how many showed up last time?"
Around 50
"Well did they all get bottles?"
Some did, some brought mules so that shut people out
"Oh well maybe you shouldn't have advertised it to leave for the true fans of the beer."
So next year i shouldn't advertise Abraxas then?
"Sure if you wanna lose business i guess" *click*

Schrödinger's Beer Merchant

I hope next year FFF announces a DLD date and then goes radio silent until the night before.

No reason.

Hey, False Equivalency! Welcome back!

I'll take "radio silence" and an attempt to keep it on the down low compared to overhyping and underplanning and every other basic sin that beer events regularly commit. I get the idea that without details people can't plan around the event. But... even that you aren't entitled to.

Maybe FFF decides that DLD is too full of hype and they want to just share details at their taproom with locals?

Are you swine entitled to details that are theirs to give out? SMDH TBH MIRITE?
