I am making the move to all grain as soon as my equipment gets here, but it does get cold and kind of crazy outside here in Iowa sometimes, so I might still do some mini-mash/extract brews in the winter. My curiosity is in the FWH, I have never done this technique, but really want to try in my 2nd all grain batch, first batch is a nice complex American Brown and I do not want to tinker with that at this moment. With a partial mash/extract brew how can I try this out? I have a guy who sells homebrew supplies and he talks about adding some of his hops right to the grain steeping bag or mini-mash, is this similar, similar results? I like to brew a lot of IPA's and I think from what I have read that tis technoque can add to the flavor and complexity of the brews, and help or tip would be welcome!
