When I made my last brew I put it in the fermentor at about 79, sealed it up added the themp probe to the thermowell and let it cool the rest of the way to 62 before pitching the yeast(WY1050). The next morning I had active fermentation however it had appeared that the compressor died on the fridge as it was up to 65. That wasnt a big deal since I was going to raise it to that once fermentation took off. However, by the next day the tempature was at 85 and the following day, it was almost 90.

Do I have anything to worry about? Thanks in advance.

You might have some fusels, at the very least. Check the “compressor protection” setting on your temp controller. I had accidentally set mine to 1min (should be set to 4 or 5) and the compressor crapped out on me during day 7 of a lager fermentation in the Florida summer...also got to 90F but ended up tasting fine since it was later in fermentation.

compressor protection? I have an inkbird dual stage temp controller, would it have the feature?

Yeah. I have one no-name and one inkbird cheapo STC-type and both have some function to keep the compressor from cycling too quickly. Might have to look up the abbreviation for your model and cycle through your settings to figure it out. Mine is denoted by “CP”

After killing 2 chest freezers in less than a year I called it quits! Not sure why a freezer designed to operate well below freezing has a hard time keeping beer at 68deg. I had it set to cycle at 3 deg both times. It didn’t seem to cycle all that much.

Needless to say I bought a Spike CF5 conical and I’m going glycol using a small mini fridge. Hope this works out better!

Well I moved it out of primary, It reached a gravity of 1.010. It tasted a maybe a little fusely but not bad at all, my roommate couldnt even taste any fusels, I'm looking forward to trying it again once its carbed and cooled down.

Then I'll be able to take a look at the fridge and see why it was acting up.
