Country is really the ideal brewing music.

"Well I was drunk, the day my mom got outta prison and I went to pick her up in the rain.
But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck...

She got runned over by a damned ole train!"

C'mon... doesn't get any better than that!

No I think maybe something more like Sun Ra or Albert Ayler. Throw in some John Zorn, some later Coltrane, maybe some good fusion as well.

Yeah, that's the stuff. Brewing, you get those 30 minute intervals where you can really dig into something that requires a bit more attention than you can give it while driving, etc..

Its ironic how the Dropkick maniac compared anyone who doesn't like Dropkick to Hitler...since I have seen two of their shows and I have never seen so many skinheads in one place. Never again will I see some bs irish punk show again.

I listen to a Sirius mix channel of classic rock.
Y'know, being a skinhead does not equate with being a nazi.

Sidenote: No offense but there's a bar named Mr Roberts here in Madison that is infamous for being a coke den. I kind of just caught your name there.

Last night I bottled my Belgian Pale Ale to the tunes of Beastie Boys' "Paul's Boutique."

...one of these things is not like the other...

first off don't even try to call dropkick punk, they are not. Second Irish punk does not = skinheads, I love Flogging Molly and I've seen them live, there were no skinheads in sight

Last brewday, The Tangent - The World that we Drive Through & The Flower Kings -The Sum of no Evil

(Jonas is a monster on the bass)

Next brewday, I'm probably going with Liquid Tension Experiment (1 & 2 )

(Yes, Tony Levin is a monster on the bass too)

PS - The new Dream Theater is pretty kick ass too.

I will watch a Braves game on my laptop if they're playing. Otherwise, I am probably listening to some Phish, Widespread Panic or something along those lines. I see mention of the Dubliners in here. I am a drummer and got to jam with their guitarist a few times. He is buddies with the guitar player in my old band. Good times!

Generally it's one of two genres.

Texas County/Red Dirt music. Reckless Kelly, Randy Rogers Band, Roger Creager, Robert Earl Keen, etc. And I'll usually mix in some of the older guys like Cash, Merle, Hank, and Willie as well.

Or classic rock. The Doors, the Stones, Skynyrd, Zeppelin, The Who, CCR, etc.

It just depends what kind of mood I'm in.

i listen to:

-my kids playing/crying/screaming/laughing
-my wife crying/screaming/laughing
-the voices in my head screaming/laughing
-my inner beer-god laughing
-complete silence (if i'm lucky)

I listen to the soudns of bubbling wort, the psssstt of a bottle cap, beer draining to my belly and maybe a little jonas brothers if Im feelin a little frisky.

Talk radio. It makes you think, while music just keeps your mind occupied. But if Charlie Sykes gets too obnoxious, (happens a lot) I put on the oldies station.

My brewing music of choice anything composed by John Dowland .... definitely oldies for me :D

I listen to either some techno or trance, or heavy metal, thrash, deathcore.. such as:
Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, LOG, Devil wears Prada.

hahahaha.... thats usually how it goes on my brewdays, unless I do it at 8pm and get done at 1am :rockin:

I usually crank a mix of Dropkick Murphys, Dubliners, Flogging Molly, and Tommy Makem.

Anyone brew in complete silence? If so, why?

I often do.

Mostly it is because many of my brewdays are on wednesday night, after work. Since I work second shift, and most of the world, including SWMBO, are asleep, silence is golden.

That said, if its a weekend brew, Phish, Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead are among the regulars.

funny, I havent seen more than maybe two skinheads in the three DKM shows I attended, and they were booed at one of them.

Gotta disagree, no doubt listen to what you like, but there is oodles of thought provoking music out there, my friend.

Oh, that is absolutely true, the first few times you hear said thought-provoking music. But after that, the music is just kinda there, in the background, keeping your mind busy.

I like music, a lot, don't get me wrong, that's why I post so much in the music match forum. I was just sayin', that's all.

Just my 50 pence worth about the whole skinhead thing. Being a skinhead has bugger all to do with racism ... sure there are a bunch of A$$hats that are out there who hijacked the genre ... the so called 'white supremists' ...

However being a Brit myself ... and being that I was a skinhead back in the day ... and being that most of us listened to reggae and later to ska ... I have to say that anyone who thinks that a real skinhead is a racist ... is talking bollox.

I think I said this in the other thread, but my next brewday I'll listen to the entirety of Neverender by Coheed & Cambria (all four of their albums played live, in succession). Seeing them tomorrow at the Starland Ballroom and it's kinda hard to be more excited than I am now.

Then there are my old mainstays, The Who, The Clash and some good ol' fashioned Hendrix.

I like your style. Although I have never listened to them while brewing, I love Coheed. I tend to crank Zeppelin or Bob Marley when I brew.

WHAT no Pogues? Gotta rock The Pogues if you have Flogging Molly and the Dubliners going. Those are the treo that I usually brew to. If I have friends over helping me we usually just chat and keep the tunes down. So often my music is the sound of talking mixed in with gulp, gulp, gulp... the "Kssssst" of a bottle opening and the splash of beer pouring out of my tap, with the slight roar of a burner going on in the background.

Oops, forgot to include the Pogues, and the Wolf Tones, Tossers, etc.

I brew starting at 7:00 am. I love brewing to the early birds. However, if it's late then I would usually just cycle through my library at Last.fm. Honestly, if there is silence then I like to listen to silence.

I always put on zydeco music when I brew beer. This is what I mostly heard when I lived in Louisiana for two years at every party and festival I went to. It has premium relaxation qualities and even makes the yeast in your wort dance about. Does anyone familiar with zydeco know what I'm talking about here? haha Nothing like enormous amounts of amazing food, plenty of beer, and excellent company. Not like here in Michigan that's for sure.

Nah, I like to play Pink Floyd when I brew. Makes me feel very creative and sets the mode for a chill brewing session. Nothing can go wrong when Floyd is on (I say that half in jest).
