I have been making yeast starters for about 2 years now and never had any issues. Typically, after they ferment out, the starter wort has this coffee-with-milk look. This time around - my starter looks like an egg drop soup. WTF? Anyone had something similar?

Erlemmeyer flask has been soaked in PbW and sanitiZed with StarSan. Yeast is WLP039 and the starter is on the stir plate.

Initial reaction is to pour this out and use dry yeast (less than 24 hours until the brew).

Would appreciate any thoughts / comments :)View attachment 236040

Your picture is "web page not available", but it sounds like the yeast is a highly flocculent one. It is normal for some yeasts to become clumpy in a starter and look like egg drop soup.

I've never used your particular strain of yeast but its probably just highly flocculant. I use Wyeast 1968 pretty often and it always looks like egg drop soup on the stir plate after its done.

Thanks guys - appreciate all the input. According to Mr Malty yeast comparison chart, this strain is equivalent to Notty. This explains it, I guess.

The yeast took off like a champ - really glad I didn't dump it.
