Hello all -

I received a dry stout extract kit from NB as a gift. With St. Patty’s day right around the corner, thinking now might be the right time to finally brew it. Looking to maybe modify it a bit. Any suggestions (chocolate, oatmeal, raspberries, more DME, etc,). Still fairy new to homebrowing, but wondering if there may be a few easy ways to make this a bit more interesting.

Recipe:
1lb English Roasted Barley
6lbs Gold Malt syrup
2oz cluster hops

The way I have learned to make a stout more interesting for St. Paddy's day is to brew it the October before. Stouts improve with age.

Barring that, since October is in the past, brew it as it is. If you really must make changes, add half a pound of DME.

I would not make changes - Use it just like it is, do everything you can to be as meticulous as possible, and see what if anything you would prefer to have in changes on the next batch. It makes a decent enough stout as is.

I agree with gunhaus. I would follow the recipe first, then try it. This will give you a better idea of what to add to make it better. However, if curiosity has the best of you. A chocolate raspberry stout does sound good.
