I found an old bottle in my cellar the other day - an oaked Wee Heavy I brewed in March 2013. I popped it in the fridge for a few days and tried it tonight, not knowing what to expect. I am happy to report that it has held up and is 100% enjoyable! I don’t have any notes about how it was when originally brewed, but in its current state, it drinks easy and sweet. It’s darker than I remember it being, but I think that is a normal aging effect. Barely any hops to speak of, though there wasn’t mush hop character originally, being a Wee Heavy. It was originally aged on some oak cubes, but I couldn’t taste any oak character in it now. Definitely full of oxidized, dark fruit flavors, I used some honey in the original brew and I swear I can still smell it here. No signs of infection. I’m not sure I could drink a ton of this in one sitting - much too rich and cloying (?), but all in all I am impressed with how this has aged. Who would have thought that it would even still be drinkable after 12 years?!
