Out of all the places Charlotte can relax, she chooses the second to last step on the staircase. 🤦🏾‍♂️

hilma likes to pose too, when we decided to get her, there were no good rescues available and we were set on a certain type of dog(spitz), so we found a relatively local lady who did shows with her keeshonden and was having puppies for the next "generation", if there were more than 2 in the litter, we were allowed to buy one, so we lucked out, she was the smallest of the litter.

Great pictures; sure wish we could afford a dog, hopefully someday.
There are many dogs out there in shelters in need of a forever home. Many rescue organizations have very reasonable adaption fees. We have three rescue dogs and they are the best. All they ask is for a safe home and they will give back far more than they receive. If considering getting a dog, please consider a rescue. They will love you for it! Here are two of our pack.

That is how we'll do it once our financial situation improves.

I just saw this post the other day from one of my local shelters. I am on my second shelter dog, the first was fantastic the second one was a little older and seems to have been abused. 3 years later she is finally behaving like a normal dog....mostly.

I read about that recently and it was my understanding that this program was in Washington. And we're in Indiana.

Since this thread needs a little life…

Posted a pic of him at same beach a little bit ago, but took him out again this morning. After 30 minutes or so I wade into the water after throwing the ball as I’m very certain he would drown without realizing how tired he is from getting this ball. He is relentless.

I posted this in another thread a while back but figured why not here too!

Two years ago today we were in Hondo TX. To pick up this little one. 3550 mile round trip from Pennsylvania. She fit right in with our two other rescue family members. She is the class clown of the pack. 4 days on the road and worth every minute and mile to get her. She is our second family member from the same rescue in Texas.

Grog's Public Service Announcement™

PLEASE keep up with your heartworm preventative, you do NOT WANT your dog going thru treatment to get rid of them

our Gemma is still a foster until she is done with the treatment. We got her late November, had to wait for her to be spayed before we could continue with the h/w treatment & it is BRUTAL, for us, but more for her

she had to have several shots, a month apart, the 2nd time being 2 shots. stay overnight at the vet's for observation. then, between treatments, she has to be kept calm. IMPOSSIBLE to do with a bouncy bundle of energy we all know a 3yo dog is.

we've got a mild sedative for her, but it's not very effective.

she has another appointment (no shot! just a checkup) on the 24th, another 30 days calm, then we can adopt

Wow that reminds me of our old buried vizsla, Marlee. Make the most of these days. You'll miss him.

Here's our replacement. Daisy, taking a selfie while watching the hockey game (bolts/leafs) with my wife on Thursday (I was at the game :) )

We have determined our Lady Gemma cannot take a bad photo.

forgot to mention; we signed the adoption papers, she's OURS!

took her for a checkup to our regular vet, who said, in her professional & unbiased opinion "[Gemma] is perfect!"

thank you. #1, Priscilla & #3, Howdy both lived to their teens & we spoiled them rotten

Goombah was only 5 when he developed kidney & liver problems, stopped eating & we had to put him down. he was a very handsome & sweet dog, but not incredibly bright. the BigHair called him "the Brad Pitt of beagles"

it was the first time I'd ever seen a vet cry when putting a dog down & that endeared us to her. granted, I haven't had many dogs put down, maybe I just never noticed in my own grief.

2 years after we got Howdy - coincidentally about how long we had Goombah, & also next week it will have been 10 years - he must have slipped or jumped, landed wrong & hurt his back pretty badly. local neuro vet wanted too much $ to fix him, so we started making arrangements to have him put down

until our vet recommended taking him to the Virginia Tech vet school, where they could do the surgery for much less $ & we drove overnight to get him there.

we cannot express in words the gratitude we have for this wonderful veterinarian, who is now our "primary care vet" & to the vets, nurses, techs & students at VA Tech's Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine

which brings us to my PSA: if you can't afford treatment for your pets at a regular or specialist vet, check local colleges for a veterinarian school. not only saves you money, but it will help train & teach the next generation of vets. yes, students will be working on your pet, but under strict supervision by actual vets.
