I have some brown, green, and clear bottles. Are any better for a particular type? I have a stout, an IPA, and a Mead going. Should any of them get a particular type of glass?

Stick with brown. Light has an effect on hops in bottled beer, brown glass minimizes the light getting to the beer.

Clear glass bottles will let light into the beer, which can cause a photochemical reaction that results in that funky skunk aroma and flavor that many people *cough*Corona drinkers*cough* mistake for how a beer should taste. Stick with brown glass bottles unless you actually enjoy skunk brew. :mug:

Dark glass to stop UV damage.

I suppose that not storing your bottled goods in a sunny spot would cover that off nicely too.

Clear bottles will help you see the color and clarity.

Choose accordingly. I would not worry about the glass of the bottle, until I had plans to cellar stuff for years, and even then, like as not, it would be in a cool dark corner of a poorly lit part of the house, so it likely would not make a bunch of difference.

Beer in brown glass.

Mead & cider can go into green, blue, & clear glass if you desire, as long as there are no hops present and you keep them out of the light.

I use mostly clear bottles, and can't tell any difference between the beer in them and the brown bottles.......But they are NOT stored in the sun.

Thanks everyone! I'll try to get as many brown as I can, and I'll be sure to keep the rest in the shade

Hmmm...so I guess Newcastle drinkers enjoy skunk brew as well?
