So I got the first season here and I cannot stop watching it! Holy crap its insanely interesting.

Highly recommend A+ would watch again lolz

Yeah, I just heard about this show and it's already in my Netflix Queue right after the last season of the Sopranos which I still haven't watched. It looks very interesting, in a sick kind of way... which happens to be my favorite kind of way. :D

Dexters first season is one of the single greatest seasons of TV I have ever seen. Season two also kicks major a$$ but last half of season one had me on the edge of my seat, then after the finale I was slapping my forehead going OMFG!!!

I will say it is my all time favorite show.

Both Season 1 and Season 2 are awesome! I saw them on The Movie Network, I understand they're starting to show on regular TV, not sure how much good stuff could be left though. I especially think Doakes wouldn't be very entertaining on regular TV. :D

I havent caught the episodes on normal tv so Im not sure how bad they butchered the show, but I followed both seasons religiously on Showtime. Excellent show, great actors.

To the readers out there, I suggest reading the novels that the show is based on. "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" and "Dearly Devoted Dexter" By Jeff Lindsay. They are a good read, a little bit different than the show but the central ideas are there.

I think I've watched one on broadcast, and I think they cut Doakes and Deborah quite a bit. :D

The books are a decent read. The first season of the Showtime series follows the first book somewhat faithfully until the end. The second season of the TV show departed from the written series entirely, though.

FYI, season 1 at least is free to watch on Netflix "Instant Watching" tab.

We've been watching it too. I can't imagine how the show is now that its moved to network television (isn't CBS or someone carrying it now instead of Showtime??)

So far me and SWMBO are digging it.

I'm pretty sure they are just showing reruns. I don't see Showtime letting anybody have it for anything other then reruns.

And I agree with all the comments above. The show rocks, can't wait for season 3.

CBS started showing season one to infuse some new blood (pun intended) into their strike depleted lineup.

We watched season 1 on Netflix "instant" the other weekend when my GF was ill. Both of us really enjoyed it & added season 2 to the queue immediately.

ahhh, many thanks for the clarification. I could not understand how it could move to CBS permanently, since every other word out of his sister's mouth is "Fork!"

I watched a couple on regular TV and while it was still better than not having any dexter at all, you really miss out on the colorful language from Deb and Doakes. For those that haven't seen it, watch it on showtime, rent it or buy it.

"Dexter" finally rose to the top of my Netflix que. I watched episode 1 of season 1 last night and I'm hooked already. This show is awesome! I cannot wait to find out what happens next. SWMBO is a little creeped out, but she's intrigued. We're gonna go watch episode 2 right now.

I saw this thread when it first started and I wasn't really intrigued.

I NEVER watch network TV...EVER. I also NEVER listen to commercial radio. I consider almost everything on commercial radio and network TV to be utterly disgusting and and insult to my intelligence.

Enter "DEXTER"

I downloaded the first season on a whim and started watching it... and could not stop. I watched the entire first season in 2 nights. Second season was just as good. Best part of downloading it? NO Commrcials and the rest of the BS that I hate on network TV.

Can't WAIT for season 3!

My wife was the same way, the first one creeped her out, then by the second she was hooked bad. The intro actually creeps her out the most.

Pete, I have a couple friends who are the same way and stated they never watch TV that it all sucks etc, etc. It took a couple of weeks of relentless pestering before they watched the first episode but that's all it took.

I could never watch more than 2 eps a night. I wanted to watch more but I also didn't want it to end. I can't wait until september!!

it's pretty good. he spends most of the series talking to himself, which is kind of irritating, but i've always been intrigued with serial killers, so i guess i can forgive it.

i'm REALLY interested in reading the novels.

Zombie thread alert, I know, but I showed up late to the Dexter party.

Wow.

Friggin WOW.

I just plowed through the first four seasons on Netflix in a matter of days. While at times it's a little formulaic, this is one of the few shows I've watched that has lived up to its hype.

Contemplating dropping the $2 per episode for season 5 on Amazon streaming.

Damn damn damn..

Don't bother, the first 4 seasons are superb but then it turns to ****. Do yourself a favour and stop now. At least you will end on a high.

Thanks for the advice.. but I gotta see this through. :)

Turns out a friend has the series on DVD.. just started season 5..

You might think that, but if you're hoping for an ending or any kind of resolution, you won't get it.

Seriously.

Just stop after season 5.

Seriously.

If you disregard our warnings and continue to watch season 6, get to the end, and then think "OMG, this is going to get awesome again!" Please keep in mind that it won't, in fact, do that, it continues its downslide.

Seriously.

If you disregard that warning, and watch season 7 because "I must be wrong, it has to get awesome again", you'll see I was right. You may think to yourself, "Well that sucked, but I've watched it this far, I'll watch the last season because I want to see how this story plays out", just keep in mind that it doesn't have an actual ending or any kind of resolution.

So anyway, don't waste 36 hours of your life, just stop watching after season 5.

Seriously.

lustreking speaks the truth. By all means finish season 5 but then stop. For your own good STOP!!!

Made it through. They had some decent ideas in Season 8, but that was super poor execution (pardon the pun).

******SPOILERS******

I know that it would have been super easy for the show to turn into "the kill of the week" sort of thing, so maintaining a balance must have been difficult.

Probably my biggest complaint is how the show started including EVERYBODY's drama. Screw that. It really should have been perhaps more focused around Dexter, with slowly widening concentric circles as his compartmentalization slowly started to lose integrity... or not. I don't know. I'm not a Hollywood writer.

LaGuerta was useless. She should have been offed a lot sooner.

Like a lot of people, I understand the finale, but am not completely satisfied with it. Honestly, a better resolution may have been to end the finale with that annoying blonde on the kill table and Dexter's struggle between allegiance to his sister or to his "soulmate". Instead of having Dex "unplug" Deb, why not have Hannah poison Deb (which would have required a slightly different story line), thus forcing Dex to choose.. which puts him back at square one with his "evolution" from "monster" to "human".

I think the perfect ending scene would have been to have Hannah on the table, Dex looking stoic. The plastic on the walls are covered with pictures of Deb (maybe some Deb/Dex and Deb/Dex/Harrison).. or better yet, just pictures of Dex, as he would feel that the "human" side of him had been destroyed... Dex stands up, selects a blade, walks to the kill table and looks at Hannah with a blank look on his face. Switch the camera angle so it's looking up at him from the other side of Hannah as he holds the knife over her chest. Completely devoid of emotion, he simply says "I love you" and he brings the knife down. Add the sickening sound effect as the screen goes black.

I dunno.. maybe too "Sopranos-ish", but instead of telling the viewers how everything worked out, I think by leaving it more open-ended would have been a better way to complete the series...

One of the issues I have with American television (I watched a LOT of BBC while growing up) is that the audience is spoon-fed EVERYTHING. Honestly, that insults my intelligence, and is one of the reasons I tend to stay away from a lot of American programming.

Who knows.

Regardless, I'm gonna miss that show. I generally liked all the characters and REALLY liked the gratuitous nudity, although if I never see John Lithgow's ass again, it will be too soon.
