SWMBO and I are back and forth on the name. I want Keira, she wants Allyson (I hate her spelling of it).

Thoughts?

While this may sound terrible, it is important to spell names correctly. Personal flair doesn't carry well down the road where people's impressions of parents might be based on kid's names. Don't shoot the messenger, it's an observation.

First off all, congratulations!

Secondly, if you really don't like the name SWMBO is favoring, you can always do what my dad did before I was born...he hated the name my mom liked, so he went out and got a dog and named it that name just before I was born.

This

I present to you:.

Edit: Some would find that offensive. Wouldn't want someone to get their panties in a bunch. Search for "the dash dont be silent"...

ditch the y and it would be ok.

Agreed.

I'm on your side, see the original post. I have passed over resumes for the spelling of a name.

Thanks, and LMAO. What was the name?

She had a rather odd affinity for the russian version of Michael, Misha. My dad did not, so Misha was a good dog :)

Your dad did you a big favor with that dog lmao. My buddy wanted to name his son AFTER the dog (Jax) because he said someone needed to carry on the dog's legacy. It didn't fly, exactly, but Jasper did get Jax as a middle name LOL

I voted Keira cuz I've never been a fan of the name Allison, nor any of it's misspelled variants. Just a thought here, but have you thought of combining the 2 names to make a new one? Maybe something like Allera or Alleira, pronounced "Allaira" or "Alleera."
Hhhmmm, maybe not; sounds like a new allergy drug...
Go Keira! :D
And congrats on the new kid.
Regards, GF.

Tell her you might consider Allison if she spelled it right. I hate when people intentionally spell a name wrong just to be "original". I like Keira.

Here is my opinion on names, don't make crap up - spelling included. My name is Ian, my wife is Willow, our son is Finnegan, and our daughter is Maelle.

having a name that isn't common leaves an impression - having some whacked out made up name makes you a target. I voted got keira because I have niece with that name.

try this website - if you want to look at more names - it will tell you how common a name is - because I didn't really want my kids in a classroom with 15 other haileys or savanahs. My wife and I also didn't tell anyone the names we had chosen ( our son didn't have a name for about a day) because who cares what other people think and they will only try to change your mind.

*apologies to anyone that named their daughter Halley or Savannah*

When we were having our firstborn, we decided on Cody because it was a wish of her late grandmother's to have a Cody in the family. When my son was born, it was almost two days worth of consciousness by the time I got to go home and get some sleep. By the time I got back to the hospital, she had already filled out the birth certificate paperwork and it had his name spelled Coty.

We never discussed how it should be spelled, we both assumed that our version was the only version of how it really is. She never saw it spelled Cody, and I never saw it spelled Coty.

So now, whenever I get a phone call regarding my son for, say, a confirmation on a doctors appointment, they always pronounce it Cot-ee instead of Co-tee. Drives me crazy, but it's too late to change.

But on a funny note, when he was about 9 years old, he and his friends all wanted nicknames for each other. So as we were discussing this at dinner, he described his affinity for all things that are cool with the letter X in it. So as I'm taking a bite of my dinner, he says he wants his nickname to be Cotex. You know, like Kotex. I almost choked on that bite. I spent the next few minutes trying to explain to him why that's a bad idea, without destroying his innocence. Now that he's almost 15, it's a lot of fun to remind him about that moment and pick on him about it.

And I vote for Allison. Not Allyson. Allison.

If you're a brave enough soul, try this technique:

1. Suggest naming the child "Batman", regardless of gender
2. Stand firm with the name; don't relent, no matter what
3. When the baby is less than 3 weeks away, suggest the name you really want. Assuming you've done a good job holding your ground with "Batman", she'll typically be so relieved you're not going t try forcing such a stupid name on a child, she'll agree
4. Celebrate your victory (while sleeping on the couch, most likely)

I don't want to "invent" a name for the same reason I don't want too spell it wacky.

You know Allyson is going to "Ally" for short, right?

You know what an Ally is?

A place where hookers and drug dealers hang out...

LOL

I did, i'm not against the name just the spelling.

I have been avoiding those websites and saying no to any common name she comes across with. I only said I would entertain Allison if she spelled it right, and because it's a pretty name. We know like 6 Allison's though, so I don't see her winning this.

I like Allison. Good name.

She said Thank You, that brings her up to like 7 total votes to me now 65 lmao

66.

LMAO I'm off to suggest "Urinal".

My wife is a doctor, and she saw a kid get named la-a. Pronounced ladasha apparently. WTF People??

I would definitely vote against odd spellings. Both of my wife's names have odd spellings and people's inability to even write them down correctly is legion. She spells out K-e-l-l-i-e and they write Kelly!

Keira is a great name. Totally a REAL name, but not too common. This is exactly what we went through. Thankfully though, we both agreed.

My wife and I were both loving Alessandra, but we kept coming back to the fact that it is loooonnnnngggg... Furthermore, to add to the problem, my wife is firmly against nicknames that involve shortening the actual name. I am called a nickname by almost everyone, and have been my whole life, but it is not connected to my real name at all.

Long story short, we were watching Silent Hill one night when she was pregnant, and I had totally forgotten that the little girl's name is Alessa. It piqued our interest and I searched online, found out it was a REAL name by itself (Italian too, like me ;)), and so the decision was made.

So yes, my daughter is named after a possessed movie character. Fitting honestly, considering she's my kid. :rockin:

Keira Nukinfuts seems to have a nice ring to it... :D

Congratulations, whatever the name ends up being.

And here we can't think of a middle name, it's right in front of us! Lol thank you.

We are to the point that letters don't need to be present to be spoken.

Thank you, I won't admit to her that I originally took notice of the name when Keira Knightly hit the screen LOL. Silent Hill is an awesome movie.

What? Can you please explain how you convinced wife number one to allow you to take wife number two. And why choose two wives with weird names? Oh how the questions pile up.....

Congratulations. Allison is okay if spelled correctly. Spelling it otherwise will make her parents look illiterate. I've known three dogs named Keira. True story.

I like Keira. Allison sounds so old fashion. And here's some nerdy trivia, when the Japanese name their children "Kira," the meaning of the name is "killer" (learned that from the anime Death Note). Plus, it was the name of the Bajoran woman on Star Trek DS9 :)

Good luck! Michael, my name, is far too common and I've always disliked just how many Michaels there are. When we found out our first was going to be a boy, my wife and I decided on Griffin. Very original-not too out there. Now that he's 2.5, I can't imagine him having a different name.

Keira Ann was born at 12:27PM on 3/1/12 in Hannibal, MO! Healthy and happy at 8lbs, 6oz and 20in long!

Please don't take offense to this, but I have never understood the purpose of the length measurement on a new born...it's not a fish!

Slightly late but congratulations!
I had, well my wife had, my kid on my birthday, April 3, 2012 :)
And as for spellings, they do matter to the kids lol
I like Sofia she liked Sophia.
I won. The babies name is Sofia Jessica Haley ( I told her to chose first name I'll chose middle name. But I chose all of them lol )
...
And if it's not kicking a dead horse I vote for your name. I am a firm believer that if I see a name in a porn I'm never naming my kid that. (aka ally)
