Hello made a starter with a 5000 ml erlenmyer flask I just bought. Its been on the stir plate overnight. Today I discovered a 2 inch long verticle crack above the beer line up an inch or so below the lip. I cannot feel the crack from the outside with my fingers. What should I do here? I don't want to pitch bad yeast.

My guess is that the crack is more of a threat to your safety, than to the yeast. I'd finish the starter, then I'd be very careful and wear some leather gloves - but continue as normally. One thing you might consider if the crack looks like it shed any glass inside would be to pour the starer through a sanitized fine mesh strainer before pitching - just in case. My bet is you yeast is fine - just be careful with the integrity of the flask. And what a bummer, those flasks aren't cheap.

Best of luck!
