I was kegging a batch last night, and while searching for the leak, I found that it was at the pressure relief valve. I tried tightening the plastic piece, which helped some but did not fix the problem. So I grabbed a lid from another keg, and it worked. So a few questions:

I know that different kegs have different poppets, are the lids different? The two kegs are Cornelius Ball lock kegs. I looked on them for a model number/name, but couldn't find one.

Can I replace the pressure release valve, or do I have to get a new lid? The valve on this particular lid is not the pull-ring type, but has a little plastic triangle piece. I can't seem to find a picture of it online, and I'm at work right now.

Is chi company the best place to get whichever replacement part I need?

Thanks in advance for your help

Give Keg Connection a try. They have lots of different parts and also sell new and reconditioned lids with pressure relief valves installed. I bought some reconditioned lids with valves to put on some old pinlocks I had and they work great on my ball locks as well.

I would just keep an eye on Craigslist, it's cheaper to just replace kegs locally then to ship in parts. This way you can hoard pieces to retrofit all this pesky problems.

Give the guys at CHI Company a call. You can buy off their web site if you know what you need, but they'll help you if you call. They sell replacement lids, pressure valves, and other parts for ball lock and pin lock kegs. It will probably be cheaper than buying a whole keg.

Not by much. A lid is $14 plus another $9 for the relief valve. At $23 total, that averages to about what I've paid for most of my kegs (via CraigsList).

The safety valves are easy to replace and I have at least 500 sitting in a box at work. Feel free to call next week as i can sell replacement safeties for about $5ea. New ones with the replaceable O-rings are $9.

The lids are basically the same, but over the years there where many styles of safety valves. If you send a picture of the lid and with the safety removed and visible in the picture I can match what ever you need. Been working on Corny's for over 25 years and know them as well any anyone.

Hope this helps!
