Conical Question

I just bought a Conical Fermentor. On the lid is a Sanitary Hose bar, my question is what is the purpose of it? It seams too small to be used for a blow off valve

If your only putting 10-11 gallons of wort in you should have plenty of head space for krausen and that size fitting would work just fine for a blow off tube.

I am only throwing a 5 gallon batch in there tomorrow....I meanI will put a blow off tube on to keep out infection....butI guess its unnecessary for such a small batch.

Hi Louie0202,

The hose barb has 2 jobs - one is for your blowoff (run a tube to a small bucket of sanitizer). The other is you can use it to put CO2 into the fermenter (up to 4 psi) for pushing your fermented beer into a keg.
