Thanks for the recipe. I used the same hop schedule today, but used pilsner malt, 1lb english C55 and some nottingham yeast to favor the english yeast as you mentioned and thats what they had at the localest shop. Haha lost a gallon to the gigantic hop mass;)

Brewing my clone now. Pre-boil SG was 1.068 boiling now. Will post picture later on.

What was your OG?

My OG was 1.074 post boil and I didn't add any sugar in the boil. If I do I'll only add a few ounces and I'll add it in a few days. Here are a few pics from brew day.

My Gandhi clone. I think I screwed this clone up by brewing it with Conan. The apricot/peach aroma is incredible. Just doesn't taste exactly like Gandhi. Going to try a different yeast next time.

It really smells so damn good, I don't want to drink it. I swirl it in the cup and smell it. It's addicting.

Checked my gravity today finished a little bit low 1.008. Smells freakin amazing I didnt use Irish Moss so I dont imagine it well clear very well with my water, but this is going to be awesome anyhow may try to carb a bit higher to help counter the low gravity

Color looks awesome on that. ^^^

I sent Clint one of my clones. Doesn't necessarily taste like Gandhi. I think the yeast had a lot to do with it. Clint, try that beer I sent you and post your thoughts here. The aroma is pretty close but I wouldn't say it's spot-on. It smells too much like peach/apricot. I love the beer, but I didn't nail it on this one.

Will do Brian. I need to bottle my Honey Tripel tonight so I'll drink your Gandhi-bot clone while I'm bottling. My weekend was crazy and I'm just catching up at work today I've got a bunch of sweet pics from my brewing weekend in Bozeman that I want to get posted on hbt too.

I love it man. Smells close to Gandhi but the peach is definitely there in the taste it's not bad though just different is all. I'd drink a keg of this tho man!

Oh and I bottled my tripel too. Strange blackish layer on the top.

Is it confirmed there are hop additions at 10, 5, and steep? I would move the 10 to 5 and the 5 to 0 and keep the steep...from my experience that should make it a little less bitter and increase the flavor and aroma slightly. My 2 cents tho

Nothing is confirmed about the recipe except what's in it (except for the third hop) and the relative timing of the hop additions (i.e. heavy on late additions of Columbus and Simcoe). I've actually recently read in passing that an informal study was done that seemed to show that hop flavor contribution peaked with a 20 minute addition. That's how I did it for the second brew of this; 20, 15, 10, 5, steep.

While at NEBCO (old place) last week, I saw nothing but Simcoe and Columbus Hop Union boxes, FWIW.

I bottled up 2.0 today and man does it taste promising. It'll have to wait for carbing to know for sure, but the bitterness is almost assuredly spot on and in any case it's definitely less bitter than 1.0. It got down to 1.009 even with the English yeast, so I hope that doesn't make it too thin bodied. Will report back when I taste a carbed bottle. Hopefully I can find some real GB to do a side by side with between now and then.

Hey Nuke, is the recipe on the front page updated with the changes? I'm brewing this tomorrow (fermenting with Conan as I have no English strains at home).

Your beer will not taste like Gandhi with Conan.

nuke and Lolo, I'd like to see pics of your brews to see how the color compares to mine.

The lighting in here is rather dark. This is an unedited picture. But I'd say my clone is darker than real Gandhi.

Thanks. Not really a big deal. Lucky enough to live a few minutes from the brewery so I can get it fresh whenever I want.

Great! Just saying - I brewed mine with Conan and it is more peachy/apricoty in flavor than the real Gandhi. If you are aiming for a real Gandhi when you brew, I would not use Conan. That is all I meant by my previous comment.

Let us know how it turns out! :mug:

Oh I know, thanks. And I didn't mean any snarkiness in my reply. I'll be happy with any solid IIPA, and from what you guys have reported, this is a solid recipe, regardless of the yeast elements.

I would go with another strain, but all I have on hand is the Conan, some Wyeast German Ale, Wyeast Thames Valley and some Allagash White yeast.

Here's mine, with some backlighting, so it looks lighter colored than yours, but it's probably about the same. I remember doing my side-by-side with real Gandhi and noting that mine was a bit darker.

So, looking at the op; no dry hopping on this? Just a monster hop stand?

There was a dry-hop on each of our v.1's. I added 2 oz. Simcoe, 2 oz. Columbus.

Thanks man! I can't find your recipe post in here. The OP doesn't mention dry hopping unless I missed something. Also how long was the dry hop?

He may have modified the recipe on page 1. But I'm pretty sure the original called for dry-hop. I will wait 'til he chimes-in to verify that.

I just brewed this yesterday. With the whirlpool addition, this weighed in at a full pound of hops. I don't plan on dry hopping. :D

That said, I had a fairly successful brewday with this one. Was a bit more efficient than expected (1.080 OG), and my mash was about 45 minutes longer than expected (due to a toddler who didn't nap as expected). Looking forward to the results. Checked on it this morning, and certainly have active fermentation 11 hours after pitching.

So what's the final recipe? The one in the OP has 20oz of hops after I add 4oz of dry hops. Seems like a lot.

I want to get as close to the real thing since I'll probably never get to try it.
